06 Yamaha F150 peeing troubles

Thanks! I removed the water pump for the 3rd time to make sure everything was in order. I am going to try Chris V’s trick this evening. Just to clarify, I am shooting water up the motor from the bottom with foot removed. You mentioned prop, and don’t see how that is possible. I put the foot back on this morning, and hooked it up to the hose. It started peeing, but was a weak stream. I was going to hook it up to the adapter to see the stream with motor off and when I took off the flush adapter there was scalding hot water coming out. It kept flowing out of the adapter for several minutes. I don’t remember this ever happening before. I couldn’t even attach the hose to the flush adapter because it was so hot. Does that point to anything? I never remember having water come back out the adapter hose when first attaching, or even after flushing. Seems like water is getting stopped somewhere and coming back out the adapter, even though water flows through the tell tale, and lower unit when flushing.

I did say prop, and that was incorrect. the gearcase will be removed, so no prop, but water will pour out the hole left by removing the gearcase.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

water will normally come out of the flush adapter when there is pressure on the system

How bout the woodruff key?

The woodruff key is fine, thanks for the help though! Chris V. first of all, thank again for all of your help. You help way more than you have to, and I really appreciate it. I took the boat to the river today, and it did not pee. I took your advice and removed the lower unit. I found an old hose and attached it to the brass fitting in the pick up tube. The first two tries were unsuccessful. and water just poured out the bottom of the motor. The pressure was very high and was hard to keep the hose on the tube. The third time I was able to get water to come out of the thermostat opening and the tell tale. Does that mean that water is getting to all the places it should?

Last week I was talking about a woodruff key and a couple of younguns thought I was making the name up.

Wonder where the name came from?:smiley:

there is a good bit of water that builds up in the block that causes back pressure on the hose, so the pressure can make the hose hard to keep on the pick up tube. if you are using city water and have the hose fully open, water should be shooting out several inches from the block. remember, you have probably 60psi at the hose, and the motor only needs about 10-15psi, but high volume to operate. if you have the gearcase off and want to stop by the shop, we can put the gearcase in the test tank, and spin the drive shaft and see if the water pump is working properly. probably take less than 5 minutes.
