Measured the fish in front of him with the free SC DNR ruler sticker they give out he said “that doesn’t count because the ruler is off.” It was off a half inch. He used a tape measure.

That being the case, they might as well just make one marked with 1" to 36" on a 12" sticker.

I saw that one coming.
But…Doesn’t the harvesting of fish during 5’n done have the same effect on the fishery as fish that are harvested the rest of the year?
Are you suggesting C&R only for guides as well? or just recreational fishermen?

It’s a put and take fishery. Take what your legally aloud to if you want. I was just stirring it up… and that goes for the guides and rec guys. Yall know I release 99% of the fish I catch outside of the 5 and done.
I will say it felt really good on sat to not have a cooler in the boat! And we got to fish past 10am. Even if we did only catch a few after 10.
As far as the effect on the lake, it’s hard to say. More fish are harvested in the summer by a long shot, but that’s because there are more boats on the water. Prob 10x the amount of fishing pressure, BUT bigger fish are harvested in the winter. So it’s really a pick your poison type of answer.
It all still boils down to put and take. It has taken me along time to swallow this, but it’s the truth and I understand it.
Now stop trying to bust my balls…lol…

Fishing past 10am and no cooler. I don’t get this, how do you keep your beer cold?
And less than 20 minutes to respond, impressive.

Actually I don’t keep many for myself these days either other than mid/late June till early/mid Sept unless I have someone on the boat that wants some. To be honest, I enjoy eating them sometimes, but too lazy and usually don’t ever feel like cleaning fish when I get home.

That’s how I am. I kept the 2 the other night for dinner but yesterday evening I told Dad that I didn’t want any fish and he agreed. Normally too lazy to clean them.

I usually release any fish I catch. If I do keep any, it’s for the cleaning guys at work or my next door neighbor. And that would be fish that I know wouldn’t survive. If my wife would eat fish, I might keep more, but she won’t let me within a hundred yards of the house with a fish.

After seeing so many pictures of docks covered with fish all summer long, it diminishes the good you feel like you are doing by releasing them in the winter. Unfortunately, Stripers are in a barrel in the summer and it’s easy for people to target them…and they do it often. I’m not generally in favor of the government limiting more rights but if they closed the season for a month or two in the summer it would probably do wonders for the population. No way it would ever happen but it’s a thought.
Had a few dead fish the other day and tried a new recepe! Put filets in alu foil and add sliced fresh garlic, salt and pepper, spread thick with mayo and drizzle with honey. put on the grill for 20 min. Great taste! Saw a chinese guy do it on Utube!
