Hey guys, I am new to the area and have been charter fishing for many years over on the Florida panhandle. I have access to a 34 regulator and we were planning on fishing next weekend (March 7-8) and was wondering (sea surface depending) if there is a chance for some early wahoo. I’m not looking for spots I was just wondering if somebody could possibly point me in the right direction to catch one. Thanks!
Good chance, look for temp brakes 40+ miles out along the ledge. Really, you’ll have to go that far out of Charleston. Welcome to Dixie
40 miles out (or so straight out) you’ll hit 180 feet, start looking and fishing as it’ll drop to 200 feet pretty fast, then over the next few miles drops all the way off steep.
Temp breaks, fast troll.
A lot of folks fish the 226 hole area this time of year from Charleston. N 31’ 55’. W. 78’ 58’ is a good place to fish now,., maybe, lol but that’s 55 or so miles from the jetties.
If it were me, I’d start around the Edisto banks area and fish toward the 226 hole.
Hope that helps, but yeah they are here all year long, but in March the ledge and beyond seems the most productive.
Yes, fast trolling the ledge this time of year. It’s better around a full moon, but go when the weather allows. Get some baits deeper too and you’ll increase your odds.
Look for birds on the surface and chances are they’ll be blackfin under them.
Dolphin show up in May.
