OK, what colors do you like?

I’ve got some of these jigs poured, two styles that have screw locks for plastics, and with what seems to be a very wide range of colors on the market, what colors do folks really use?

I know that bare lead is fine, but I tend to paint everything to help limit the oxidation.

I’m pouring these with 1/0 to 4/0 size hooks, depending on weight, and expect that 3/16 or 1/4 oz. may get the most use.

I have various powder coat colors that I use for bass jigs, and panfish jigs. I do like to experiment, but am thinking not to get too carried away with a lot of colors.

screwlock jig

I like the plain leadheads the best

then white for overcast or deeper water

then red, because I read somewhere fish can see red mo’bedda

small yellow for crappie

orange because it’s UTs color, and that beats almost everything else, lol

That’s about the most common sense and scientific reply I’ve ever heard. At least you have good reasons for choosing those colors.

I don’t follow any college teams too closely. I used to try and watch U of MD Terrapins football some when I lived in MD, and Navy too since I lived close to Annapolis, but rarely do now. There’s a big rivalry here in SC between Clemson & U SC, and I may watch either one, and as long as it’s a good game, that’s as much of being a “fan” as I get. But I know too that some here will fight you over all that, so I try not to get in the middle!

I was just in a discussion about Crappie jig colors, and I’m sure you know there are some really wild, and totally unnecessary colors being used, but to some it’s about “art”, and
many folks will always use what they like, regardless of the reason for choosing it. I know that a lot of that with the special colors is to sell them. Don’t get me wrong I do it too to some extent, because I like messing with the powder coat paints. I use black, white, or chartreuse the most, and will use chartreuse in the greener shades or closer to yellow. But I have painted Crappie jigs many other colors too.

Not long ago I read a post in a fly tying discussion, the guy said his young daughter, who may have been 9 or 10, wanted to tie a fly and go with him to fish it. So of course she picked some colors of materials she liked, including some pinks, and daddy was a little embarrassed to report that she caught a trout on her fly, that her father wouldn’t be caught dead using. :slightly_frowning_face:

I thought it was funny, and Kudos to the girl! :+1: :+1:

That goes to show that we’re only guessing.

As always, thanks for the comments! I appreciate it! :+1: :+1:
