2015 tournaments

I also liked the leader board and found that it was a foundation for talking smack and telling more fish lies…lol! Joey spent alot of time constructing and building the board and team names. I do align with Joby and everyone else that our current structure does not necessary compliment this extra task but we did it for over two years with volunteers. If this means we need to add a third tx director then lets face the music and make it happen. There should be unity among all the members that is made our weigh=-ins a lot more exciting and as someone said in the tread, I like to know where I finish without bother the tx directors or calling them after the tx.

My 2 cents…

“My biggest worry is that my wife (when I’m dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.”

Joby I am sure you know this is just a friendly open discussion, with maybe a splatter of debate thrown in regarding technology verses papyrus… Our TD’s always have done, and currently do an excellent job no matter how they choose to compile the data and run the weigh-ins. I was just offering suggestions on possible time saving and automated options in an effort to assist you guys if needed. Until we start using a software regularly and building a tournament history database, I guess the TD’s can and should use their own method of choice.

The underlying thread here still seems to be that many enjoyed the leader board as Richy and Woody have brought up. Just “maybe” it can be resurrected through the TD’s & volunteers for next year. And don’t forget I sell thousands of tons of paper each year for a living, so keep on writing those weights down each month if that’s what works best for you… Now I believe I am through with this topic of discussion and need to go “hand write” some 20+ Christmas Cards on 70# cover stock, mailed in a 28# envelope grade. “Paper is Good”… Visit http://www.paperbecause.com/

I am good with the discussion and appreciate a good debate, maybe more than I should. I am also a fan of the leaderboard. I used to help with it at weigh ins. I think all of this makes us a better club because we can have these discussions. Tommy still has the old magnetic leader board. Might need some more magnets and a label maker for 2015 team names but that is small stuff.

We just need someone to own it. I know that a thread like this gets a lot of attention. Maybe some one reading it will take this as a good way to get involved. Good TD training. I think I am fully vested in the tournament director 401K program after this year so there may be future openings#128516;

An end of the year summary is something i would like to see in the future as well. Here is an example of the ASC. Yall might have seen it on their board. I know their participation is much smaller than ours but its still a great model to maybe help make future decisions in the club. Would be great to look at this every dec/jan as a club.

“All fisherman lie. And if they say otherwise, then they’re lying”

We have all of the tournament data except live release and hours which is easy. Just need to figure out how to extract it. I could get it by sorting by month. I would need some help with macros to automate the data.

I like that level of information.

Chip, I am working with Joby and actually tested my software at the tourney Saturday as you know with his blessings. Here are screen shots of what I can produced on my software at the moment. It does also track the monthly totals like your example, but since I just built it last week, I simply added the YTD November totals for November for each team rather than going back and asking for the January through October actual weights. I am sure we have this data and I could plug it in for 2014 if needed. There is a lot of additional data that could be added and tracked, but “How much is too much”?.. I can combine the monthly info in the pics below into one grid for a single snap shot of the totals by month… And Sorry Chip I had you team name spelled wrong. It is now corrected as “Sea~N~Stripes”.

As we said above, Joby’s system works well with everyone turning in team sheets at the weigh-in so if that is how he is comfortable, as TD that is fine with me. It just requires him to to do a little manual input later on but not a lot. Look how quick the results came out this time…

This is for sure a better model for tracking points and I plan to use the final version for next year. I am not a fan of manual sorting of the excel data for month and YTD each month and this model fixes that. The sheets will stay for a couple of reasons. Backup for questions after the fact, which happen. We also use them for the news write up as they give all team names and cities. We could put that in the database but for many teams it changes month to month. That would put a burden on the weigh in changing the file to represent who fished with a captain each month. In the future we may decide to go to an all electronic tracking model. Maybe then the club will want to invest in a laptop or tablet/IPAD.

Van, thanks for developing this model. I think it will simplify points tracking.

Joby

Don’t forget to add in Youth & Lady Anglers and the Team they were with! Helps me post to the web site!

Thanks!

Looks like a great program laptop sounds like a good way to go we be getting in to big time technology. Nice advancement and faster results.Good going Jobe ,Van and Chip .JMO
