Today was one of those crazy days, started off with three bad omens: a reel breaking, frost on the cooler, and nearly falling all the way trying to deep-hole shrimp (only got my shins and boots soaked lol). I almost was gonna call the trip off.
However, I decided to carry on. After trying a few spots with no luck, i was able to put some sheepshead in the boat. No monsters, but will be dinner. Next, tried out a trout/drum spot and was suprised with a 25.5 incher!!!
She took off on two huge runs, and thinking it was drum I started to horse it. Then it neared the surface and I saw the spots. My hands were shaking as i netted her. Took a quick video, picture, and released her as quick as I could. Insane day with an insane reward. Caught on eye strike iridescent head 1/8 with a white Slam Shady 3inch. Will report it to Release over 20 as soon as im done with this post.
Gonna try to get out to the Capers nearshore sometime soon and go for some stud sheepshead before I go back to college, if anyone has any tips for that I would love to hear!
that’s freaking awesome! i wish i had the gahoonies to go fishing in this weather. i hate the cold and would have headed back in after getting wet out there. At least you caught some dinner. great report.
Outstanding catch! My PB in SC is 25" so great job - I’m jealous
Thanks for releasing and the RO20 entry.
Release Over 20 will have a booth at this weekend’s Haddrell’s Expo, if anyone would like to drop by and talk fishing! Also, I’m doing a talk on Saturday at 3 where I will show some interesting trends compiled from the entry data from around the country.
Awesome dude! I’ve had my fair share of those crazy days haha.
My PB trout is 27” caught down in Mosquito Lagoon FL five years ago. When I set the hook and heard the drag scream I thought I had a stud red on the other end but it ended up being this beautiful gator trout!
I’ve been living in the James Island area over two years now and am loving the Chucktown fishery so far! Tight lines and hope to see you on the water
