Greetings and respect. headed down the 24th for a 6 day( 1st time to area) and wondering about live bait. any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Welcome aboard! If the water is out of the grass… you will not have a problem finding bait, even if it’s in the grass, mullet are schooled and cruising and getting to be decent size too. If you can throw a cast net, you should be good to go. Post up your results! Good luck bud
Where are you fishing, the creeks and rivers or deeper?
Mullet are certainly there running up and down the shorelines as well as the mudminnows. I’ve seen menhaden flipping in the Stono too. Shrimp are still small but almost fishing size around Limehouse area (a little further north than you’ll be).
Besides buying live bait, if you get desperate, you can use frozen mullet chunks or day old blue crabs for bait. Crabs are better fresh of course, but the mullet doesn’t seem to make a difference to me fresh or frozen.
Good luck, stay cool!
Alot of menhaden, all sizes in that area right now, set a trap for mud minnows.
