Fished today for Sheepshead from 8am to about 2pm and didn’t catch a thing. Fairly new to saltwater, only my 2nd year fishing the harbor and creeks and i may get down once every month or so. I know I need to get out more if i want to be proficient with it. I know its possible because I’ve caught them off a friend’s dock on the Stono river in mid July but am i targeting them inshore the wrong time of year? I put in at Shem, fished those docks but tide was low or dropping so left out of Shem and went to the Pitt St Bridge, again nothing. Next I tried the pilings on the Ben Sawyer bridge with zero luck. Fished just about every dock coming back up the right side going back towards Shem then finally the pilings on the Ravanell bridge. Looked like others had been trying because barnacles had been scraped off alot of the bridge pilings i fished. Am I trying the wrong time of year? Were the ones i caught off the Stono dock a fluke occurrence?

I appreciate the info. Id never scrape someones dock but every bridge piling i went to had been scraped. Was using fiddlers on a bottom sweeper jig, eye strike jail bait which was nowhere near heavy enough to keeo near structure and a carolina rig but dont think my weight was heavy enough and i was casting, not far, but still like i was fishing for catfish with the carolina rig.
Fish vertically, straight up and down
