“TAKE A KID FISHING”
Just saw a post on FB from my cousin who is down in Los Suenos right now. They went 12/18 on sails yesterday and he made it sound like that was just a so-so day this time of year.
He works out of Jupiter FL, but the owner of the boat he captains was to take his son to CR and was unable to make it. He didn’t want his son going alone, so he asked my cousin Tommy to accompany his son on this trip…and he accepted. What a guy!.

Alright folks so I promised a report and pix. Sadly I don’t have a sail picture to show, but really that’s the only slight negative from the WHOLE trip lol. The following report is LONG you’ve been warned lol. Thank you all for the advice and I apologize for any typo’s you find. Cliff’s notes here… it was great trip and I recommend it completely but go during April if you’re after Mr. Billfish.
Day 1 June 11, 2015 Arrival and vow renenwal
We left ATL on time and arrived at SJO just before noon local. This was our actual anniversary day and I had set it up to renew our vows on the beach in Quepos. After clearing customs fairly quickly and MUCH less painfully then coming home we found our rental car person and were driven there in our rental car to fill out the paper work and so forth. We finally got on the road to Quepos about 1:30 and made it to ?The Falls Resort? about 5PM. Interesting drive getting used to the CR drivers who are a bit NUTS ha-ha. Looking at the ?resort? I was a bit leery and worried about what type accommodations he had, but once in the room it was quite nice. A better lock on the door would have been preferred, but everything turned out fine. We met the pastor I had set up to perform the renewal and followed him to secluded beach for the ceremony. Then we had dinner at a great Italian place (Victoria?s) he had arranged for us. Very nice first day in CR.
Day 2 June 12, 2015 Fishing Day 1
We left our room a little before 6:30 to head for the marina to hunt the sails

Capt John W allowed me to tease and switch with naked ballyhoo. I caught several very big sails in two days. I brought a Stella 20k w 80lb Jerry Brown Hollow Core and a suitable black hole casting rod. It was hands down the best trolling experience of my life. You can feel the bill whacking the bait and the take, count to 5 on freespool then lock it down and don’t set that circle hook. I fished for two days. Each day began with a spread of rigged baits. Once we caught a few gaffer mahi, we took the hooks off to strictly teasing with the only hook on the rig in my hand. The Parador was so delighted to receive the fish, they gave my wife and me free dinners. Perhaps some other local restaurants could treat you the same.
John W was the most respectful captain I’ve fished with, out of about 20 worldwide.
