Alligators on Murray

Go out there and poke it with a stick. It will run off. I wouldn’t be too concerned unless you’re a bullfrog.

Gators under 6’ aren’t territorial. They’ll run if you charge them, hit them, etc… Especially if you attempt a gators boys thing, ask Me how I know…

14’ Skiff-“Redfish Reaper”

why cant they survive in murray when there are thousands in santee cooper ? ive always been curious … have you ever seen the size of the ones in santee cooper … dinasaurs !

I don’t think it’s so much a matter of survival as it is prefrred habitat. Santee is swampy, murky and relatively shallow. Very different than Murray. Also I’m not too sure they would get into Murray without some “human intervention”. Any gator coming up from Santee would be more likely to continue up the Broad river instead of the Saluda since the Broad would be warmer. IMHO

The only thing to worry about is the kid or ignorant adult screwing with it. Perhaps a gator more than 6’ would be of concern if you had a young lab or other water loving dog. We watch too many crocodile discovery channel shows and think our gators behave the same…not so. Perhaps you should be concerned in a few years when it adds another 2 feet to its length, but until then…just don’t corner the thing.

Somebody’s pet or as a prank. Buddy in Bama said at numerous boat ramps “saltwater/brakish” species were showing up and freaking people out…good one imo
