As an update, I was able to adjust the fortress to the 45 degree position and it finally hooked. I was really getting fed up with the fortress and basically deemed it as useful as an underweight normal danforth. Holding the line closer to the waterline seemed to help it as well.
Glad it you’ve gotten it worked out. Fortress anchors can be great anchors but sometimes can give boat owners fits when trying to anchor with certain substrates/anchor setups due to their lightweight.
Go with a Sea Claw and never look back. Fortress are good back up anchors given their light weight but if you’re going to be anchoring often, get a Sea Claw. I’ve had Fortress anchors on 3 different Fountains. Bought them because they were super light and as a just in case measure.

I recently made a “Cajun” anchor that I use on my 19’ CC. I have a danforth, a river anchor, and a mushroom on my boat that when those won’t hold I throw the Cajun down and it has never failed me. I have about 40 ft of rope on mine and have used it in 20 ft of water.
I made my cajun anchor myself. I went to a scrap yard and purchased 6 ft of 1" stainless rod and cut it into 2 pieces. This cost me $50. Then I cut it into two 3 ft pieces to make two anchors. Ground one end to a point (not sharp) and then mounted a galvanized clevis on the other end to tie the rope to. I have $60 in two cajun anchors when you can pay $65 for one ordering on line.
Throw the rod straight down into the mud and it will go 1-2 ft into the mud then tie off to a cleat straight up from the anchor.
My boat does not move.

Hey Sc I really like it it was 130 bucks but it was worth it. sets every time holds in really tough current I think I could have gotten away with the 10 pound but I’m happy. I cant wait to see how it holds in Marathon next year. plus they say its only a 2-1 scope with it.
