Thought I’d bump this for anyone who wants or needs a cliff notes version of making pin rigs 101.

RUBBER BANDS ARE PRETTY QUICK ONLY USE COPPER WIRE ON THE PINLESS OR SPLITBILL RIGS TRIED PUTTING THE RUBBER BAND THROUGH THE EYE SOCKET.

If Mullet Head endorses rubber bands than that’s the way to go…He’s old school. …and a hell of a fisherman.

I am not sure where anyone saw us say monel or copper was the way to go. These rigs aren’t designed for tying monel with them.

A pin rig is meant to be able to use a rubber band or bait spring. We have rubber bands that stay on your wrist or in your pocket, and it’s faster than anything else. The skirt lets you get away with it…

If you loop the wire for the pin through the hook eye and weight with your mono/flouro it will save some wahoo cut offs

Yep. It will not prevent all cut offs, but it saves enough fish to make it worth doing.

If you poke the eyes out of the ballyhoo you can go thru the eye sockets with the rubber band and wrap back to bill and end on pin. This give a lot more holding power. Instead of that little dolphin pulling your ballyhoo off the hook on the first little nibble it may stay on and give you another shot.

Capt. Ed, it was a pleasure talking with you the other day. I appreciate all of your help, and look forward to fishing your rigs. Great customer support!!
Thanks again, Jason.

The wire loop through the hook will help prevent some cut-offs. Three days after the Georgetown wahoo tournament we caught two fish with cut off rigs in their stomach, ballyhoo still rubber banded to hook. They were both cut off at exactly the length of the seawitch head. I guess they got the whole rig in their mouth and it pulled tight to the inside of its teeth. The big one was 79lbs!

FWIW I was taught as kid to always take the eyes out. Otherwise the eyes will start to bloat out and make the bait spin after being in the water for an hour or so.

Everyone has been very happy with your service and product (no surprise), but I wanted to say thanks to Capt. Ed Keelin for taking care of everyone I have sent your way.
