Battle or sargus

The Fierce is not last year’s battle, the battle has been out only 1.5 yrs or so…The sargus is still a great option for the $$ as well, we have had great success with them. Only real issue we see with either the battle or sargus is be sure you care for them and rinse after each use. Have seen a few where corrosion got under the paint and caused it to chip off, but those we have seen like that seemed to be neglected after each use.

Keep it local Yakman! Been way too many questions and rigging discussed between us to spend all the $$ at Wally World my friend!:wink::wink: Just picking with ya, I know you are in all the time and we genuinely appreciate it!

The battle is one of the only reels I’ve seen that have the rubber strip on the spool that enables you to put straight braid, that is one of it’s awesome features that persuaded me to buy a couple. I have two three thousands and a four thousand and love them. They all have straight braid. Just make sure you wash them like any other reel.

Im looking at the same thing between battle and sargus and think its time to upgrade from the Pursuits even though I have loved them. They have really been through it but still in good condition except for the mentioned cosmetics. All the positive talk I believe just sold another battle and cant get that at walmart. Those guys at the local shops do more than sell tackle you have to support them. Walmart does have some good people watchin though.

I have the braid tied straight to the rubber “Braid Ready” piece on the spools of each of my Battles and have not had any issues. I have put my 5000 Battle through some incredible fights with tarpon and 8-9 ft nurse sharks and have not had any issues with the line not staying put. The Sargus does not coem with that “Braid Reday” rubber band but as Too Busy said, you can get around that with a wrap or two of electrical tape. On my Daiwa Saltist 4500 I have 50 lb line tied straight to the spool with some electrical tape wrapped under and a bit on top of the line and have not had a single problem.

Awesome thanks guys Ill have to get a battle then I wish I could cough up cash for a saltist but Im still buyin diapers. Im sure battle will be awesome.

Thank you for letting us know about the problem with the finish on your Battle and Sargus reels. The flaking is a cosmetic issue which is not the result of corrosion. What you are seeing is a paint adhesion issue which does not affect performance and is cosmetic only. Our production team has identified the cause and solution for reels moving forward. For those of you who are experiencing this issue, Id be happy to speak to you. Please private message me with your name, email, phone number and best time to contact you. (Dfreedom, Optiker, Jeffro22, Rapchizzle, Too Busy, Dawgfish09, and Reelhunter I will send you a note shortly to get your contact info and to arrange a time to speak) Our quality team is currently taking steps to ensure that this doesnt happen with future production. Thank you all for the support. Tight lines…

Cameron. got your message and replied. My stuff takes a lot more abuse than the average bear’s. Yak fishing puts stuff to the test a lot faster than being on a pier or in a boat.

Ok so Battle it is. What rod and series do you have? (3000, 4000 ect) and what are you using it for? Any of you guys got one of the new Penn rods? Trying to find the best setup for Cobia but will also use it for Striper on Hartwell and Clarks hill.

I have a new battle 3000 matched on a Penn Legion rod. Both rod and reel are great quality price-point items. IMO, the Legion ($89 range) is one of the better feeling rods towards our style of fishing inshore that penn has come out with(believe mine is the 7’3 8-15#). Would also take a look into Star Rod’s FT series (fast taper) as another option…both are regular stock items and will not dissappoint. hope this helps!
