Black Sea Bass

All of yall are a bunch of conspiracy theorists. You should trust your government. Especially when they tell you “nothing to see here,” or “this is an old issue,” or “we’re going to study this,” or “there is overwhelming evidence.” Trustmetrustmetrustmetrustmetrustmetrustmetrustmetrustmetrustmetrustme…you are getting very sleepy. You will turn in all your guns and fishing gear…Benghazi never happened…the IRS is your friend…

There is no conspiracy. There are just people that don’t understand that Gregg Waugh and David Cupka want to regulate by means of a MASSIVE MPA for the past 20 years and are happy as kids in a candy store because they finally have the leadership backing from Daryl Crabtree and the financial backing from PEW. Essentially they are attacking us with a multifaceted approach:

<> Make people think there is a problem which requires “action”
<> Create a crisis which requires “immediate” action (i.e. red snapper scandal)
<> Use any statistics they like and twist the interpretation any way they like to fit their motive.
<> Hire low rent, ass kisser “scientists” who can be easily led in a direction that agrees with the agenda
<> Make regulations so complex and overwhelming people will beg them for large area closures in exchange for simpler regulation outside of closed areas.
<> In the mean time, slide in a network of smaller MPA’s just in case the other strategies don’t work.
<> Pit recreationals against headboats against commercials to break up any showing at the meetings
<> Have PEW pick up the bill for the “outreach” programs since the feds don’t have any money on their own.

It’s actually a VERY simple plan and being well executed. And the only way to get rid of it is to fire the assholes that came up with it…

Again, their goal is NOT to destroy fishing. They want to create ONE MPA that covers 80% of the fishing grounds and let almost anything go outside of that 80%. The idea is that if they “Protect” 80% of the fish, it doesn’t really matter what happens to the other 20%.

Sounds suspiciously like a consipiracy.

This is my first post so be gently!!! ha ha So are the feds going to take away last years overage or is all forgiven and we start from scratch. I think we were over by almost 2x or fair catch limit and that is or was coming off the top this year.I watch this subject and think the only reason the Feds gave us a greater catch limit is because of state talk of going rogue. I feel if we let up on the 10 mile state waters now it will be increasingly harder to get it later. I have been out 4 times this year less than 5 miles and every time the black sea bass ruined my trip. Don’t get me wrong when we can keep them I love to eat them so 5 get no pardon from me. We did not get our way and will not get our way until the state controls waters out to 75 miles. this is what we should truly be pushing for!!!

I love the idea of the state taking over management of waters out to…but the political reality is this: The feds will claim that we are taking more than our fair share and surely “discipline” us in some other way. Don’t be mistaken, I’ll continue to push for more state control, but I want you to know what could happen as we grab more control.

Speaking of Federal waters and the black bass, has the legislation that passed the house now law or is the Council’s recent crumb letting slowed that train down?

The council can’t stop that bill. It has been read once in the Senate and still requires passing out of committee. Senator Campsen is the chairman of that committee. Call or write him and ask him to pass it out favorably. If he gets it out before we adjourn for the summer, it will be law this year.

So getting back to my original question, will the Feds take part of our catch quota this year to make up for last years overage?

Skinnee, I split hairs for a living. It’s only a theory when you don’t know it to be true. A consipiracy is just 2 or more people putting their heads together for a plan (usually ill intent). This is a conspiracy, and it’s certainly for ill intent. I’ll meet you half-way and agree that it’s not a Theory. It is fact!

“Sleep When You’re Dead!”

Ha! We are actually in agreement. I just misread "conspiracy theory" when in fact you just wrote "conspiracy" because you used the word "conspiracy theorists" in a previous post and my mind was still there. No need to meet half way. I agree with you 100%. I just misread what you said...

The short answer is yes. The recreational overage is around 20k lbs so that would be subtracted from this years 940k. Our total ACL for this year will be approximately 920k lbs.

2 million pounds is an assanine figure when you think about there are probably a couple billion pounds out there swimming around.

I’d just like to take a moment and thank the SAFMC for saving our black sea bass fishery. because of their actions they are no longer extinct! after all this B.S. they still are keeping the same size and bag limit!!! are they kidding me? should be at least 10 fish per angler and if you want raise it to 14" what a joke!!! Let the fishing begin. catch um up…Mike

Amazing how easy it is to “solve” a crisis that never existed

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

We are catching a lot more BSB inshore this year…if they don’t correct their “mistake” soon, then BSB is all we will have left…well maybe a few lionfish too…
