If you want to get there fast, get a Mercury... If you want to get back, buy a Yamaha...

BOAT FOR SALE! 2004 SEACRAFT 20’ 6" with 150 MERC. Cant make it offshore, doesnt hold enough gas and the engine is made from recycled beer cans. 1st money order for $9 takes it.

You forgot to add that “will get you to where you are going extremely fast but must have Yamaha mounted to make the return trip.”

This just made my day

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

It sounds like you have all the correct seamanship skills, this is what i do.

I have a 21 " Sea Hunt and go to the ledge on good days.i look for the weather & sea to be 3’ waves or less i like 6 seconds and up,15 knots or less for 48 hours. If you think can beat the afternoon storm you will lose, the weather can change in an instant. Monitor the wind & waves, if it is starting to get worse head for home. i have gone out 5-6 miles from the jetty’s and turned around, live to fish another day.

I file a float plan with my wife, where i expect to go fishing, what time i expect to be home or if late call when to call the Coast Guard, she almost did once, I called the house from the jetty’s and checked in.

I have a ditch bag with extra marine radio, GPS, EPIRB, flare gun, flares & smoke. I have type 1 life vests with lights, whistles & rope on them, i wear in & out and ALWAYS wear the dead man’s lanyard. i have Sea Tow.

I hold 60 gallons of gas and burn @ 40-45 gallons, I did install a second gas tank. The other day i used 42 gallons to the ledge & back.
A lot of people from this area go out with a single engine. Make sure it is in tip top condition

File a float plan on this site. Best of luck, see you out there :sunglasses:

I have taken my 1969 20’ Seacraft out to 1500 feet or better several times. All about knowing your range and picking the correct day. Though no matter how calm, its a long time/ride in such a small space.

Seems the consensus is “if you have to ask”…

what hp you running AJ 2362? Great fuel burn! Better than my skiff with a 25 MERC!!

we have a 19ft mako with a single yamaha 150 and our boat holds 70 gallons and we have gone out to 150ft trolled for 5 hours and made it back fine with gas to spare. I would just pick nice days to go out
