Spent my honeymoon there 50 years ago this December in the guest cottage at my Uncle’s house.
Pink Elephant still around?
Fished the pass during a Tarpon Tournament, it wasn’t crowded at all back in 1963.
My bride caught a 150 pound Tarpon; wore her out.

live shrimp under a cork across a grass flat is the ticket for truth. Greenback sardines on a single circle casted into the mangrove roots is the ticket for snook. Reds will be around oyster beds.
Grew up going fishing there. Caught a huge tarpon while cruising 200 yards off the beach. That place has the best fishing around central fl.
Good luck. That is one of the only places I miss from living in fl.

The goliaths are definitely around as well as numerous shark species. I sent you a request on facebook if you are interested in the big boys from the shore. We rented a place south of 1st st on the gulf for a week, amazing place. Toll is $6.00 each time coming onto the island. You need a FL state park pass to stay @ the pass after sunset which is $120.00 and can be bought on site. 20% off for military, good for 1 year.
Buy beer at publix before getting the island, the local market is considerably more expensive. South Beach restaurant by the pass had decent food, and the pink elephant and temptations are the main bars/night life. The boca grande pier is small, but the scenery is beautiful, and it is free to go out and open 24/7.
