LOL! Larry, it’s called Target Detection! This is funny! If you move, you’re dead!
Where I grew up hunting, you had to wear blaze orange. I hunted with guys that wore what we called “pumpkin suits.” Head to toe blaze orange coveralls…and these guys never had trouble killing deer. It has nothing to do with color/finish of your clothes and/or firearm.

I’m not steady enough, but my brother-in-law has shot quit a few at 100-150 yards open sight (adjustable front sight) with a .44 magnum. That was his thing when he was still hunting deer. Pretty amazing shooter.
Once upon a time, rifle hunting lost its challenge for me and that was part of the reason I took up bowhunting. Well, some years later, the itch of hunting with a firearm crept back into me but not with a traditional long gun. That led to a purchase of a T/C Encore handgun chambered in 7-30 Waters. Hunting with a handgun presents more challenges than hunting with a long gun. Granted, more time than not, I still readily accept the much more formidable challenges (and frustrations) of hunting with a bow when I head to the woods but thanks to my Encore, it got me back into hunting with a firearm. That said, just like hunting with a bow, hunting with a handgun isn’t for everyone.

I have 2 pistols that I feel comfortable using.
- 500s&w 8 inch barrel - 4 x fixed Lepold
- 460 s&w 10.5 barrel 3x9 leupold
Both a bit of over kill for here but deer hunting Is not the only reason I got them. I’m on the hunt for a 44mag with a 7.5 barrel.
It’s a different type of hunt for me with the pistol first time I shot s doe with one it took me 15 min to stop shaking before I could get a bead on her. Although I have yet to shoot a buck with one, I have taken some pigs, deer and of course a moose.

quote:I'de agree with that but I was hunting in the swamp and was waiting on a piggy to stick his nose out, she was still there when i was thinking about leaving so she kinda gave herself the green light. I'm not mad I didn't shoot her, just wondering if my gun has too much bling.....

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.“Life’s tough…It’s even tougher if you’re stupid” John Wayne

Larry I hunt private so I stay in full camo, no blaze. If I’m in a rush ill take blue jeans and a black t as I often hunt in condo blinds where you could wear neon pants and the deer would never see. Some camo jeans and a camo t are only about $30 for the set. However even if you only see in shades of grey a bright color will be easier to see against a dark background. A dark matte finish barrel will just look like a stick. If deer were scared of every moving stick in the woods they wouldn’t get much sleep. But I’m not a deer so who knows, I’ve heard they can see some colors including blue.

I’d bet there has been a lot more deer killed by country boys in overalls than yuppies in fancy camo. Not calling you a yuppie. I do most of my hunting on my own property and don’t wear orange either. Usually from the porch.
A few years ago I was turkey hunting in the Tuckahoe WMA with my son. We were both propped against the base of a large cypress tree early one morning. Heard something coming, told the boy not to move a muscle. He didn’t. What was coming turned out to be another hunter. We both had on jeans and an orange vest. He stepped right over my boy’s legs, never even saw him. When he got to my side of the tree, he didn’t see me either. I said “BOO!” Dang that fellow jumped a long ways City boys

Was he color blind? How do you step over someone in an orange vest? The only expensive hunting clothes in my closet is my waterproof cold weather jacket I’ve had for 14 years.
Well I ain’t a yuppie but I’m not pure country heathen either. I can still catch gators and snakes and even a snapping turtle exploring in the flood waters. Good enough for me.
My Ruger shoots further than most deer can see anyway.
