great report
Nice!!! That is some serious drag to put a bend in that 450 like that!

I really want to do a PEI trip like this one day. Looks like you had some good contacts, and you took the right gear for all the fun you could stand. That is some hard core fishing…
Most people don’t understand the work that goes into all the prep to make the above “happen.”

Someone will catch one on the 30000, it won’t be me. I finished up the battle around #50-55 of drag. That Stella will only do about #44 and to be fair to the fish up there I will not bring one back up there. I could have fished close to #60 or better drag if we had the preset turned up. If my fish was #850 that is only about HALF of the current world record. I will go back, probably in a few weeks for the insane bite that happens when the herring are in. It may be my new favorite thing.
The 30000 will be awesome for NC fish as I really like the reel and the balance it offers on the heavier tackle. Not enough for the Canadian fish, IMO.

Wonder why the 30000 only has 44lbs of drag when many of the other Stellas have a max of 55lbs??
The big spool perhaps?? Curious.
Thanks for the Awesome report Courtland!

You’re correct Glenn. The distance from the outside of the spool to the shaft was bending shafts on the prototypes at higher drag. I love the reel though.
Another high end reel manufacturer gave me their flagship reel to test up there. I broke it during testing at the shop around #40 drag before the trip. The Stella’s are still the top of the heap.
