I am close on the new hybrid retractables, guys.

Bear with me while I test some different things. I want to get it right.

It's just that before I dropped a grand on something, I looked at some that others had, and I researched as much as I could. No way am I dropping that kind of money unless I can resell the item(s) if I don't like em or I am confident they'll work and hold up well.

I had typed a few things I have seen and heard about Bly’s product, but I decided to delete them.

To each his own.

Your prototypes are looking good Phin, out of curiosity, what have you heard bad about they Bly Outriggers? I got a pair of 20 ft collapsables late last year and while I haven’t put them through their paces yet, the fit and finish seems pretty top notch (not that I’m an expert). Did some recent searches for problems but came up empty…

Bly’s, nor anything else is perfect or without problems. He supports his product well, and he has gone through several generations of improvements and price increases as he has taken on dealers and shifted his production and distribution schemes. He offers improvements to folks free or at cost when he figures out how to improve weak areas or cut down on broken bases on boats or something- and a lot is to be said for that.

A direct comparison of what I make vs. Bly’s is something you will never see me do because it would hurt him. That is not my goal. He’s established and has his own market. He may be supporting his family entirely on his outrigger sales at

Well said :sunglasses:

For what it is worth, I saw the riggers in action the other day. I must say that I was impressed, especially after we passed several high-dollar boats going by with outriggers that looked more like bream busters. They are a high-end product with attention to detail to every aspect of them. Really, check them out before purchasing a set of riggers.

Thanks, G2G!

Check PM’s. I’m very hesitant to post pics of anything prematurely after the experiences I’ve had in the past few weeks with another outrigger builder…

My order has been placed and field testing on the Pioneer will be coming shortly. I can’t wait!

I like the name. I’ve read about these horses in Edisto history and always thought it would be a great name for a boat. (or business)

I like the bases on your product. I have some of the Bly's and I thought that the bases on his poles were a bit of a hack.

Good luck Phin. Looks like you are putting some quality craftmanship in there.

Here’s a base getting bonded/cured to a pole that I coated with a new type of armor. Armor against UV, abrasion, etc.

I will have a different base for the retractables. Will look great with them.

I’ll buy a set. Just need a bigger boat to attach them too first…
