Cracker is right, the more you get out the more comfortable you will get and the further out you will go. But remember don’t let you comfort zone override your common sense. Just pick your days and be safe.

Thanks guys. All the responses are appreciated!

As Larry stated, stay in your comfort zone. Trust me, the boat can handle a lot. I’m comfortable as long as I have radio contact with someone. It may cost a small fortune to tow in from out there but…

FYI…The tow for my KW 196 from 42 miles was $1,943. SeaTow member-no charge, whew!

I’m a proud member of the Mosquito Fleet (21’ Hydrasport, 150 Etec). My advice to go straight out to 120-140’ or so and drop the lines. I’ve gone 60 miles out and got skunked, only to come closer in and finally put fish in the box.

Most importantly make sure you feel comfortable first or bring somebody more experienced. I just always seem to do better closer than farther and you get a lot more fishing time in.

Sixty miles can pay off big when they are there, but a long way to go when they are not:

I picked up two gags at the 60 last Saturday. Not large but grouper.

You can go as far as you feel comfortable in your pioneer I usually start in 100ft.

Earlier this year when out in my buddies 23 ft boat we saw a 20ft bay boat trolling in 500 ft.

Thank you everyone. My fiancé just got me an Epirb for my birthday so between that and a SeaTow membership, I feel much more comfortable.
