Cooper River landing

I attended the meeting today for the new proposed ramp for Bushy Park. Turn out was very light for first 30 minutes, but people were still arriving.
The Engineering firm in charge of the design had people there to answer questions. There will be no wash down or facilities due to the lack of infrastructure to support it at that location. This is just the initial draft for the landing. Public input will be accepted until June 21, 2018. I posted addresses separately. The County is trying to bring SCDNR on board to help defray costs and as such, it will be a completely public access ramp. Estimated time to completion would be approximately 15 months.

15 months from now? From what I gathered by asking the same questions to everyone there and comparing each answer to the others’ was;

It will be happening 100%, just a matter of time until final drafts are completed and permits are purchased.

Expected start dates are from the end of this year to Feb 2019 and to be completed within 6 to 8 months.

100% public with no fee’s, memberships, or taxes added to the public.

Possible septic tank type facilities as long as it get approved, no wash down though.

We are encouraged to send emails and/or paper copies of the comments and suggestions that we would like to see implemented into the rough draft design that is illustrated as of now… like the suggestions of more car and truck parking, larger tie down and make ready areas and such.

So please don’t just talk the talk but walk the walk and submit your thoughts and ideas to the appropriate people to hopefully get this landing up to snuff in the long run.

I was in attendance along with BOSN and turnout was fair, maybe 40 ppl there. I echo Stumps impressions. I had a list of about 7 suggestions that I submitted. One thing we asked for that I didn’t hear others saying was a lot of lights and/or surveillance cameras. I often am the first person at a landing well before dawn and the only times I have ever felt threatened or afraid is at a landing. Had a few scary incidents at landings very early.

Glad to hear they seemed receptive. Hopefully it’s not just lip service. I know I’m not local but I may submit my thoughts.

Thanks for the ■■■■■■■■, fellas.

“…be a man and PM me.”

I was one of the first people to arrive at the meeting and time to completion was the first question I asked. Expected completion was December 2019. Three people with me heard the same reply. We all grumbled about the time to build.

If they start in October of this year, I hope like “H” it is April or May of 2019. The County is wanting to Partner with DNR to defray some costs. They have not yet come on board with the project. That statement came from Peagler.

Bill Crosby told me they (DNR) should be able to add one million to the project when I asked him a week ago.

There is no doubt in my mind that as the meeting progressed, answers became clearer and possibly modified by someone with more expertise in the process. Funding is not yet set in stone, but is approved.

The drawings did not show lighting when it was released, but they will be adding it according to the firm in charge of design.

I hope that I have not put any misinformation out there in my posts. Not my intent. I started the quest a long time ago when I had problems launching my big deep Vee boat about 12 years ago.
At least, I have been persistent.

Election time and a promised boat landing on the
Cooper. Hope abounds.

We need to immediately let the two candidate’s running for the Berkeley County Supervisor position, if they support a new boat landing. I am sure both will say yes. However, both being politician’s that is to be seen. I think we should flood their phone line’s before the actual vote just to get their attention. I think all the boater’s, fishermen, divers, bird watcher’s, and water lover’s, etc. could win or lose an election for one of these politician’s.
Furthermore, when you hear, why should I pay more tax for this project when I don’t even use the water or own a boat. My comeback, would be, why should I pay school tax, since I have no children in the Berkeley county school system. However, I gladly pay my property taxes for the children to get a good education, and to keep the county running.

I’ll be contacting my Councilman this week. I’ll see if he can provide some insight to the election results and if that could possibly lead to delays.

Sent an email. I received an honest answer. “I have no idea what the new supervisor has in his plans for staff changes or priorities beginning in January. To be honest I doubt he is aware at this time of all the projects underway.”
