Like I said I’m not familiar with the river areas so I hesitated to make a bold statement regarding those places. As have you, I’ve often wondered about near the Cooper River Marina. Also some of the river front on the Ashley along I-26 between Northbridge and Cooper River Bridge is barren and seems devoid of anything.

Yep. The Neck area would be perfect for a landing

I have often wondered what are the obstacles toward putting a nice public landing adjacent to the Cooper R Marina near the mouth of Shipyard creek. Perfect location. Undesirable real estate. Perhaps somewhere near the coal trestle also.

Speaking of Bushy park, I wonder why they didn’t leave that tributary as it is and build a bridge over it rather than the fresh/salt boundary. If that tributary were as it was, there would not be a silting problem.

The Navy Base, particularly close to that marina, seems like an ideal spot for a landing. But IIRC, that idea was shot down because of worries of lots of small boats interfering with cargo ships. Sounds dumb, but seems like I remember that explanation.

As for Bushy Park, I think they blocked the creek with the road and created the fresh/salt boundary for the benefit of industries in there.

I agree wholeheartedly, our number and quality of boat landings, particularly in the Cooper River area is pathetic.

Lot’s of good info here. I appreciate your help Optiker. As far as shipyard creek is concerned we will never see a boat launch there. The new port took care of that. I met with Mayor Summey’s right hand man a few months ago regarding boat landings on the lower Cooper river. I was informed North Charleston is trying to condemn some land to build a new boat landing. I suggested the Noisette creek entrance near the north end of the North Charleston park with the two fishing piers, it’s well protected from the fast running tides, and there would be plenty of parking available. The Mayor’s spokesman says the harbor pilots association would not allow that. So now I guess we need to buddy up with SPA to get a new boat landing on the Cooper. Come on folks pick up the phone and burn these politicians ears until we get what we want.

I stand to be corrected, the first post I made on this subject I said the mouth of Noisette creek is where the partially submerged piling was located. That is the incorrect name of the creek at the Virginia Ave. boat landing.
