December Meet & Fish?

Thanks MM. Honestly I am very unfamiliar with the area south of Charleston. Just went to Edisto for the first time in my life last Summer. Thanks for the link.

I’m down for Folly.

I’m so salt life I get land sick.

I’m going to try and make this one just so someone can take a picture of me in my kayak, fishing and most importantly wearing my PFD so I can prove to my mother I actually wear it. By the way I’m 34, they never stop worrying!

Hey guys. I’m new to the area and have my kayak back after a few years of traveling without it. Made it out a couple of times to the Copahee Sound with some good success, but it would be cool to get together with some of you guys and try some new areas. When is this meet and fish?

We do these meet & fish get-togethers monthly…it is still in the works for December but keep an eye out on this thread and the kayak fishing forum for date/time.

Looks like we are good for Mingo this Sunday, I’ll have some more details shortly.

Doug, having problems finding the actual address, but just google Kiawah Island. Best I can figure is it is the only thing on Kiawah Island Parkway. Mingo point is just after the bridge over the Kiawah river on the right. If you get to the main gate at Kiawah, you have gone about a half mile to far.

Thanks Dave for helping getting this squared away. We will be meeting at Mingo Point on Sunday Dec 2 at 11am. The closest address we have been able to locate is:
One Sanctuary Beach Dr.
Kiawah Island, SC 29455
High tide : 10:01 am
Low tide: 4:20 pm
There will be a $5 launch fee for this location and a waiver form that we will need to sign to launch here. The location provides a freshwater hose and bathrooms.

We will post up more information as it becomes available.

I hope I can make it out for this one. Tons to do this coming weekend

Anyone know where/if there is a live bait place on the way there? I struggle enough with live bait, I would stand little to no chance if I am forced to fish with just arties.

If you come from 26, to maybank highway (Draw bridge by wapoo cut) you will go right by Haddrells

Yeah Haddrells is behind the South Windermere shops, next to the library…see you guys on Sunday.

When we get to mingo, stay straight and bend around to the left towards the water (away from the boat ramp). There will be a shack/office on the cul de sac where we will need to sign a waiver and pay the five dollar fee. We can use the boat ramp to launch, but they ask if we would park our vehicles in the main parking lot ( first on the left as you come in)

If you don’t want to pay, you can park at the bridge just before Mingo and carry the boat about 100 yards to the water.

Open to anyone, come on out!

(You are responsible for you own safety, so make sure you have your PFD, whistle, and proper clothing!)

Dave, don’t you think we should tell him about the tradition of bringing beer for everyone else?

Do you guys have an idea of which way you’ll go once you launch from Mingo? High tide is ~10AM. I might try to go but I’m supposed to be somewhere from 2-5pm so I’d go to Mingo early in the AM.

Here’s a link to a google map of the entrance to Mingo:
http://goo.gl/maps/BZa65

The entrance is marked with a Kiawah-style sign. As Dave said, when you first turn in the launch area will be on the right but the kiosk where you need to sign in will be to the left.
Fishing has been good around James Isl when I’ve been able to get out. Might be hard to talk myself into the drive to Kiawah early on Sunday morning. Weather looks good though if you don’t mind a little rain. (rain is much better than wind imo)
