carry a paddle and stop crying. You weren’t in a bind, and no one was hurt.
Your lack of of one of the first things that should go into a boat (I am assuming you had no paddle) was your problem, not that people wouldn’t stop or weren’t “nice”.
i threw an anchor upcurrent for 300 yards to get back to the landing once. it beat waiting hours for the tide to switch- woulda run outta beer before then
lol, B, a buddy and I did the same on the combahee river for over a mile due to running out of gas several years back. spent too much time upriver scouting for ducks…hell of a way to end that non productive morning.

Here’s my 10 cents, my 2 cents is free
Southern hospitality huh?? Get a paddle? Middle of the harbor in a 20’CC? Yeah, that will work.
I agree that people not stopping isnt our problem and shouldn’t be expected - but it is common courtesy. Kinda like holding a door for a little ole lady, she can open the door, but its nice to do it for her.
When things go wrong in boats - things tend to go wrong in groups. Engine breaks down, battery fails and you take a wave over the stern with a dead bilge pump. You can’t simply drive by and assume the person isnt in bigger trouble than you think - and some may be new to the water, they could be in full painc mode. A lil help can go a long way to ensure the safety of the other boaters.
Lookie heere, a yankee giving a local a lesson in courtesy.
A few years ago I was with my 2 sons and Pa-In-Law in the sound at Morehead City, NC. We were coming back in and saw a guy with 3 small kids in a small whaler broke down. I stopped and was moving the kids to my skiff when another boat came by on plane so close his wake came into my boat. I towed them to the nearest landing and they had a friend bring their trailer to get the boat. Stupid people are everywhere.
It’s funny you say that…took my fiance back home, up to Wisconsin a couple years ago and she was like “why are all these people waving, do you know all these people?” I laughed and said that is just how the people are up here. She couldn’t believe it. She has lived in SC all her life. Just sayin’.

I’ll throw this out there and take what ■■■■■ comes. I say we have a large Northern influence on our waters that used to not be there. I’m not knocking all Northerners because I’ve got some family up that way. But by far you will get more help from a true Southern gentleman/woman than a Yankee. There I said it.
Just take the hand waving thing ( it’s fading for sure but still there) ride our country roads and wave (casual not stupidly) and see how many people involuntarily wave back. Go up North and do the same thing. Been there done that.</font id=“blue”>
You can also tell the Northern influence in our young children. Growing up every kid said Yes Sir/Mam because it is respect. That too is fading.
Bwulmer don’t be disappointed, just plan for a breakdown every time you go on the water. My personal strategy (even a new boat will break) is to always have a friend with a boat on stand-by.
working hard and playing harder
$20.00 and I call you on this one.
I too have been to Wisconsin. Still stay in touch with a military friend there. Your girlfriend must have had a sheltered live growing up in S.C. or maybe raised up around Mt. Pleasant, Kiawah, or Seabrook. [:0] The only ones that wave at
ive read many of these responses and can say many of them are spot on. the one thing i will add about all this is that you can never assume anything about a person from thier apperance, where they are from, etc… I ALWAYS try to get this point across to all my employees being in the service industry
a jack-hole from the north is the same as a jack-hole from the south
a white jack-hole is the same as a black jack-hole or a purple jack-hole or whatever
my wife is black. people always assume she’s african american… nope wrong answer guys. i also love it when people want to talk immigration reform right in front of her… lol that usually goes over well…
anyways that was a tangent i know, but i felt like it was relevant. hope you dont have that experience again.
