I’m NOT a sticker guy, but I’d consider getting one that said “Broken Down Outboard Life”.

I am not sure how this got to be 4 pages long. it did start out mostly humorous, but then the nasties showed up, as usual. I suppose that we all have stickers of some variety whether we want to or not. We wear, use, buy gear festooned with all manner of logos. We park in lots that display any and every manner of political and nonsensical expression that we ever thought of, or failed to think of. If a fellow salt water enthusiast wishes to adorn his or her vehicle with stickers supporting such, I say more power to them Better this than another left over NoBama/ Biden sticker for 2008 no less. At least when I see these stickers, I know that somewhere in the vicinity is someone with whom I can share a at least a small measure of commonality.

I am not a mushroom head. I quit doing them years ago. I don’t like any buzz that lasts more then 3 hours in my old age

The heart of the matter is poser versus non poser. As a fisherman and surfer from James Island this issue has remained the same for as long as I can remember. I distinctly remember kids in high school plastering their car with every surf brand sticker they could find. Many of them even went to the extent of buying surf racks and even boards but never stepped foot in the water. They would even ride around downtown through the market on Friday nights with their boards on their car. All this to pose as a surfer so they could have an “identity.”
I personally have stickers on my truck. Yes the stickers help people identify me, but I do not have them so I can have an identity. I have a Hewes sticker and a Contender license plate. I am proud to own both of these boats. I think they are both top notch brands and I am very blessed that God has provided me with the means to have them. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good boat so I don’t mind promoting the brand. When people comment on one or the other after seeing them I always explain that both boats are over 20-years old as I don’t want to anyone to have the idea that I am some type of high roller. I also have a Ocean Surf Shop sticker because yes I still surf, I know and I am friends with the former owner, and I buy most of my stuff from them as they have provided me with really good customer service over the years. Finally I have a Clemson Alumni sticker. I am very proud to have finished college and I am very proud to have finished from one of the best colleges in the SE. After spending 5 great years at Clemson it is actually part of my identity.
Perhaps one day I will have a truck that has fish related stickers on it without a tow hitch. In my mind that would be awesome because that would mean I had graduated to the big boys and the boat was too big to be towed:)
