Just dropping a note here to see if anyone with knowledge of a Tohatsu dealer along the coast…I need to order an ECU but looks there are none in supply at this time.
I appreciate the help @EF1 but those ECUs will not work on my Tohatsu. They will not fit and have different mounting holes. Plus I dont think they support NEMA data feed for my Lowrance…if I could find a used one with a warranty I would definitely consider it!
…more info…the root cause of the motor not starting or dying while underway was due to the master relay switch losing power. It was losing power because the ECU was turning it off for some reason. And I do mean “turning it off” because in all cases the ECU was powered up.
My issue has been, on a few occasions at upper RPMs, the motor just shuts off. No alarm sounding. It fires right back up. The only commonality is warm water. Doesnt seem to do it in cooler water. It doesnt sputter when shutting off. Can’t replicate it on every trip so, makes it hard to troubleshoot.
That’s VERY similar to how my issues started. It would do it occasionally during warmers temps. Never in the cold months. Do you have to crank it to get it started again or does it start back on its own?
@BOSN those symptoms are exactly how my Tohatsu started out. It took several summers for the frequency to increase to a point where it became a problem. Cutting off while underway or not starting until I let it sit for ~40 min
Let me know if you are interested and I’ll share the steps I did to make the problem occur while testing in my drive way.
When you get a chance read through this post and view the two videos. It would be interesting to know if yours starts having thiecranking issue at some point…Hope it doesn’t though.
