As it always works took the boat out the past weekend and it was missing horrible. Assuming I get her fixed, what would be a good place to beach and swim near IOP?
On either side of low tide you can go out of Breach Inlet and hit the sandbar. Be careful once the tide starts moving. Not a great place to swim when the water is really moving.
North side of IOP between IOP and Dewees, or south side of Dewees. The docks on Dewees are private, so be respectful.
North side of Dewees or South side of Capers.
Google earth those spots and you can get a better visual.
DO NOT SWIM OR EVEN GET YOUR FEET WET NEAR BREACH INLET! It is very dangerous and you can also get a very large fine if you are anywhere near the water there. The current rips through there and many people have died there.
You’ll probably hit a sand bar at some point and if you do, don’t let it ruin your day. It happens to everyone and if you take all these posts literally, you’ll be so scared to operate your boat and you will not have any fun. Just use common sense and your boat isn’t so big that if you did hit a sand bar, you could probably pull it off. Be mindful of the current because people drown all the time because they don’t think it is bad. Also, if you go to an island, know the tide because if you pull up on a beach at high tide and don’t move the boat to account for the falling tide, you’ll be stuck for a very long time.
I’d like to emphasize the warnings about Breach Inlet. Please do not go swimming there. And if you are only able to get 2200 rpms, I’m not sure you should even leave the ICW in the direction of Breach. 3 knots of current plus 10-15 knots of wind could be a bad combination there if you are maxed at 2200.
so… I followed up with the service shop this morning and they told me that their mechanic called in sick and that they would not be able to work on the boat. ;-{ Said what the heck, went and picked up the boat and brought home and started working on it myself. After several hours she is fixed. The power pack was bad. Took 30 min to install a new one. Shop had already replaced all fuel lines and filter and was getting ready to tear down carbs…
First day out, I didn’t do so well judging the tide at Fort Sumter… Got to spend an extra 4 hours touring the fort waiting for the tide to come back in…
Second day did much better. Found perfect beach north of Dewees. anchored off shore and low tide and spent the day exploring the beach.
Staying on land today as the weather is not so good. Thanks to all those that gave input.
Go to the Apple App store or the Google Play Store and buy the Navionics App for your smart phone. You will be blown away by the GPS features as well as bottom info. It is a great nav tool to have in your pocket. If it could be coupled with a viewfinder and weather it would be perfect!
First of all, before you just start posting willy-nilly, there is a search function - try using it.
Next, all you have to do is wait for Cracker Larry and he will give you the info. He also knows a lot about getting rid of pool debris.
Richard Beer froth (sometimes referred to as Dick Froth) is another reliable source of amazing fishing knowledge even though he fishes with hand lines.
I do not have time to read your topic but I suggest if its your first time going in the ICW, just probably don’t do it. Wait until you have more experience with your boat in the ICW.

No salt, no fun.
Who pissed in your Wheaties… Seems odd that you don’t have time to read “my topic” but you have time to post a non helpful post… Just saying.
MOby, you have to ignore the rhetoric of the OGs on here. I’m a long time reader and seldom post, buts its a hoot to watch them go back and forth. Don’t take anything personal. Glad you had a good trip. Now that you have been, next time you come will be even better. Personal experience is the best teacher!
Thanks RandyB… Planing on doing it again next year. Boat did great but did have a little trouble getting her off the trailer at low tide. I am going to put plastic covers over the bunks that will let her slide off better. No pushing off with carpeted bunks… I tried and think one of me testies is still on the ramp at IOP… ;-]
Moby;
Some of those plastic bunks are really slick and work well , just be sure trailer is equipped with a short safety link . Seen more than one ride slide off before it was in water when using steeper ramps[:0]
just sayin !!!
