I think he meant saw them swimming in the winter during the day (or at least, not while gigging). It’s not uncommon to find 50+ fish stacked up clear as day in two feet of water in the wintertime. Now getting them to eat is a whole different matter… Sometimes they will, sometimes they won’t.
