Fishing Deeper for Trout, Any Pluggers?

As my mentor Ralph says “The harder I work, the luckier I get”… the knack is a myth… you’re on your way and will be educating us soon enough

Excellent string everyone. Thanks.

JLee, seems from your last post like you have figured it out, but the shallow suspending series of MirOdines are intended for fish shallow fish on the flats - great for the winter trout when they come up shallow, not for deeper holes. I have taken a few cold trout deadsticking grubs and soft swimbaits, as you just did with the Mirrodine. Just cast them across the current (experiment with angles up or down to get the sink rate and depth you are after) and just stand and hold rod - no reeling - no action. Action: jerking, wiggling (although the swim baits will wiggle some), whatever can be a turn-off at times for cold fish.

Keep it up - I’m looking forward to learning more as you progress.

John

Water clarity is the key element for when I fish a suspending lure. Typically, I want visibility of at least 2-4 feet.

There is a sinking version of the Mirrodine. Very effective for deeper water winter Trout.

This was the sinking version MR18 “Heavydine” Finding clear water has been a challenge in these parts but I think that’s why the bite turned on with the incoming tide as it cleared it up a bit.
I probably could have gotten by with the standard MR17 version as I was fishing a 2-3’ creek mouth that dropped into a 6-8’ channel but it worked pretty well.
