Whats crazy about that movie is, 1. How cool it is, and 2, the video that played jut afterwards was pretty cook as well with Oleg catching a 35 pounder, that Captain must really know what he is doing.:sunglasses:

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

Do you stay on anchor when a ship comes through? It can get gamey in the Savannah River jetties, depending on the conditions/tide/ship speed.

i usually keep the motor running, in case i need to turn and bow into a large wake

We have never had a problem with a ship wake. Are they big sometimes? Yep, have never been in danger from it. The most unerved I have been is when we would anchor up at night fishing for a big black drum for a tournament and ships coming by. At night, they seem like they are right up on ya and your depth perception is way off. You get used to it though. Like I said, always be attentive! Day or night. As far as wakes go, the worst was fishing for black drum at night while tied up to the fender piles of the old Cooper River bridge back in the day when the navy base was still active and the submarines come barreling by you. You definitely had to untie to get through that unscathed! THAT is a wake!

That reminds me of one of the funniest things that happened to me and my best friend one night while fisging at the grillage. It was around 1-2am fishing a tournament. It was high tide and calm and clear, but dark as could be because there was no moon out. We fished for about an hour or so and the tide was turning. The boat was slowly swinging to where the stern starting facing east. I looked up and saw this little light appear in the distance. No biggie, we see boats come and go all during the night, but I kept my eye on it just in case. The light starting getting a little bigger and brighter. Second thought was this boat was heading right us, but wasn’t close yet. Now both of us were watching it to make sure they saw us. It kept getting bigger and brighter. We started to shine lights in that direction in case they were not paying attention and didn’t see our anchoring light. We would listen to see if we could hear anything, nothing! But the dang light kept getting bigger and brighter. Now, we started getting worried and shining the spot light at them to get their attention. Started debating with each other about pulling anchor or put a float on it, move and come back so we don’t get run over. We were furiously trying to get their attention with spot the spot light and thinking of the next course of action

lol good one!!!

I look up ‘grillage’, read this and just shake my head about things that night fishing brings.
Thanks RWL for bringing back some tense moments.

But smiling!

“No… it’s okay, I know the way out…”
