hey crabjack; i was told by the seapro people that they averaged at least 10 per month putting gas in the rod holders. i agree. not a good design on the gas cap. should have been on the side.
This has been one of the most entertaining threads I have read in a year. Thanks guys! (Only because most of us resemble these remarks)

More proof that the designers at Seapro didn’t think things through. O
I feel vindicated. Now if I can just convince my buddy of that.
I don’t think it is a problem with the design, seapros weren’t the only make that people filled their bilge up with gas in. And the one with the fresh water tank full of gas, the water cap looked just like the gas cap, except it was white and labeled WATER on top. Most issues I’ve came across are owner related, like calling about their boat won’t start and I ask them over the phone if the kill switch was plugged in. They always said yes, but when I get there and plug in the kill switch and then crank the boat, they look at me with amazement.

Empty the baitwell that night, no matter how tired you are.
Always unhook the secure chain at the trailer crank when backing the boat off the trailer. 175 HP motor in reverse has a lot of pulling power when you think the boat is just hard to get off the trailer and you rev it up…the truck and trailer can move backwards on wet pavement…

I agree with you there. My comments were peppered with a bit of sarcasm. I know it was my own fault. In my case my buddy opened the gas cap while my back was turned getting the nozzle from the pump. When I turned back I just chose the wrong hole. - lol
This is a great thread. We’ve all made some pretty boneheaded mistakes at one tome or another. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one.
Make sure the keys to your boat are on a secure ring. It can separate and your keys get lost at the ramp. Then you have to go home and get your neighbor’s boat only to find your keys laying on the ground at the ramp when you launch.

Don’t park your boat on an incline with the bow facing downhill.
Many years ago a fishing buddy did that with his 20’ Sea Ox. After a month of thunderstorms and one tropical depression…well, it’s the only time I’ve seen a boat sink on dry land.
If boat motor don't start, first check the safety kill switch lanyard (and recheck)that isn't disconected. After motor wouldn't start (checked plugs, carbs, still wouldn't start) Was towed 4 miles back to landing, only to find at the dock the the kill switch was disconected (Still was hanging there like it was hooked up, but after further investigation it was pulled down just enough to break the circuit...

Take that spare boat key hanging in your garage and put it in your glove compartment. It beats calling your wife at 6 a.m. and sweet talking her into bringing it.
To Shem Creek. From Summerville. After waking daughter.
This will also save you a $150 dinner at S.N.O.B.

Can’t believe I forgot this one as I only learned of this little tip earlier this year.
Before you take your very first cast on your very first trip out with your very first ever, brand new fly rod you just paid $125 for, do not check the drag by pulling on the line at the tip and doubling the rod over. It will snap.
