Last year the flares on my boat were within 6 months of the expiration date when I replaced them. I decided to review the operation of the flares with my wife and daughter. The hand flares all worked fine but all 5 of the ariel flares did not fire even though they were in what I thought was a waterproof box. I now vacuum pack three extra flares for the boat. I have been doing this for years when I scuba dive and they stay dry and work fine.
