MAny boats have an access hatch above the fuel tank.
Many of these access hatches leak (here its salt water)
Repairs completed at Key West factory - there was a pin hole in the gas tank that the pressure test revealed. New tank installed and ready to go fishing. The people at Key West could not have been nicer replaced tank at no charge. Very thankful for the great customer service.
Great people at Key West! I think They try to do the right thing.

I agree, plus it would not be good advertisement for them if a 4 year old boat went BOOM and killed a family when a bilge or livewell pump kicked on.

You’re lucky it went down this way (when it did). My 2007 had the same thing happen this year. Key West told me I was S.O.L. Apparently the fuel tanks have a 4 year warranty. Too bad I wasn’t nearly incinerated in an explosion 2 years earlier and I’d have been spared some serious dough.
I own an 03 KW 22ft CC, I am the second owner and I purchased in 06. I had a different issue, but contacted the factory in 08 with my concern. They fixed my issue - totally free of charge. Great company with awesome customer service!
I had the same problem with the gas smell in the bilge of my sailfish cc, turned out the vent line had come loose from the tank

Lucky you then. The people I spoke with at Key West were adamant that this was because of my use of ethanol fuel. Never mind that I hadn’t used any in over 5 years. Of course that was when gas was about $2 per gallon and I was burning it up quickly instead of letting it turn to water. I was told this is happening a lot with their tanks and it’s because of ethanol gas…you know, the ol’ reliable scapegoat for all fuel system problems. The possibility of them using substandard materials was dismissed, even though that’s the only thing that can surely be said they all have in common. Oh well, I’m glad some people got better customer service out of KW than I did.
I just went through the fuel tank adventure myself. Remove center console, remove all wiring, plumbing, binnacle connctions. Cut 9x5 hole in deck, remove old deck, take out foam bedding . Free up and remove 160+ gallon tank and 25 gallon water tank. Drive to Columbia for Happy Bob to repair. Meanwhile take opportunity to totally rebuid deck and reinforce stringers. Put tanks back in, rebed with foam, reconnect fuel lines, replace deck. now sand like a madman to hide seams where deck was removed. Time to re gelcoat the entire deck. Put center console back. Rewire all electronics, reconnect helm and binnacle. This is just a brief thumbnail of the work nedded to do this job the right way. Now all I need is a tank of gas…
I’ve noticed some fumes in my storage box where my batteries are, I guess Ill be taking a look also
