Got my regrets letter- better luck next year

Just had a call in show with DNR on NPR news and gator tags were brought up. He stated that they have recieved 6800 requests and are giving out 1200.

working hard and playing harder

You should probably check your preference points - I know a few people who were drawn this year who had 1 preference point.

1200 tags issued last year (recreational) and I believe only about 440 filled.

No gator tag for me last year or this year. 2 preference points now so I guess I should have a pretty good shot next year!

Got mine for south coast. Now on to lookin for the big one. Anyone on here done anything cool with the gator skin after the kill? Wallets, boots, entryway floor mats?

I got real nice custom made Cowboy boots, belt and wallet made out of one of mine.

JTCooper, I have a friend who wants to have the same thing done with his. Do you have the contact information for whoever did yours? Thanks.

there were 476 gators taken in 2010 and 472 taken last year. that is out of a total of 2300 tags. you are right in the fact that if 6000 or so applied then dnr picked up a quick $60k but i have no problem giving $10 to dnr at anytime. the good thing is that with 1200 tags issued they stand a chance of getting another $120k. that is good for us hunters, fishers, and all outdoors people. it helps all around.

Are you asking for information on where to get boots made? If so, here is the link:

You need to have the hide tanned first. The best place I found for that is in Georgia:

It takes a long time to get it back from the tanning company. They process all their farm raised hides over the winter first and then get to the hunted gator hides. I usually get my hide back around May. Make sure you have the hide prepared properly before sending it off to the tannery, otherwise you might be wasting your money.
