I have a Buck stainless folding knife that I have been carrying for a couple of years now. I always assumed that being a “Buck” that it was made in the good ole USA but after reading this thread, I took a closer look just to be sure. Guess what? Made in china. So disappointing. I guess that I am done with Buck.

Until you have loved a dog, part of your soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France (paraphrased)
In Mississippi the farmers would “wear out” a pocket knife… they kept them razor sharp and whittled on cedar dowels while hanging out talking. They took great pride in the sharpness of the blades. There was a local knifemaker who rebladed pocket knives with blades made from good steel: crosscut saw blades and even made from flat files. Had a great one when I was 13 but lost it (of course). The file blade would hold an edge longer than any other steel blade I ever saw. Guess the negative is it would break if hit with a blow. Back then his where less than the cost of a new knife. They were mostly Case and Queen knives he rebuilt. Maybe there is a nitch for a knife made in the USA as a high quality utility knife instead of art?
