Out of water lights will be fine. The old timers did it on foot with colemans…you’re already doing way better than that. 
The thing that gigging will teach you is how fish truly congregate around structure. We all hear it all the time, but to witness it first hand is really interesting. It will make you a better fisherman, no doubt.
Maiden voyage last night I stuck a 19 in flatty I saw another but let my buddy stick it 16 1/2. Hard wind went folly area. Hid behind banks drifted incoming tide. The lights worked well me 19 ft war eagle we were in close 6 inch to 1ft. Visibility so so. Happy with 1st trip . DNR at Landing some idiots got busted with cooler full of shorts.

Glad you had a successful first trip out.
DNR is working gigging HARD this year…they hear all of us complaining, they know what’s going on.
Billsstew, nice job, this SSW wind is terrible for gigging in the N. Edisto area usually, I would imagine Folly is the same way.
Regardless, I’m going tomorrow night to see if I can find some. If the 11mph SSW in the inlet is too bad, I guess we go to old faithful holes up in the Leadenwah!
