Got the new boat in the water today.

Well you would have to drag it behind or beside the boat. It would drain the water if you took it out.

I have read a little about people using them with kayaks. The advantages that I have seen are…
-A lot less drag in the water, since it would be much narrower and longer.
-Easy to get bait out, just pull the tube out of the water, unscrew an end and tilt. The bait would slide into your hand. No chasing it in a bucket.
-Cost to make one is only a few dollars so if you dont like it, your not out a lot.
Disadvantages I guess would be…
-It always must be in the water.
-It might be a little hard to load it with bait. Not sure on that one though.

I might make one this weekend just to try out the next time I go with plans on using live bait. It seems like a decent idea. Doesnt hurt to try it anyway.

I’d like to hear how you like it but I suspect I wouldn’t want it dragging while I paddled.

I take the bait out of a flotrol by pouring the water out of the filter holes first. Then it couldn’t be easier to “catch” the bait. In fact, since you can look into the bucket you can choose which bait you want if you have options like big vs small mm’s or mm’s and shrimp.

Hey Rigger1…Since I am new in here, but not to kayak fishing, it is fun to watch your progress on buying and rigging your new kayak…CONGRATS on your choice BTW!!

You have mentioned scupper plugs a couple of times, so here are a couple of ideas:
1- The ones under your seat should be plugged up by Confluence now…the early T-120 ones were not!!
2- I always leave the 2 in the Tankwell open…it will drain your FlowThru baitbucket spillage
3- I never plug the four in front of my seat near my feat here in FL altho I have done that in TN and GA in the winters
4- Instead of buying plugs at $14 for two, I used to use those foam practice golf balls in the holes and they worked pretty well altho they were a little small
5- Then, I discovered NERF Ballistic Balls…5 of them for $4 at WallyWorld and they are perfect in my Tarpon 120…just wedge them in tightly!!

Also, as said above…use about 6’ of parachord for your floating bait bucket…bring it to the yak and tilt it backward and drain some water out…then select your bait or put it into the Tankwell behind you for the trip to your next fishing sweet spot!!
Fun to watch your progress…and there are good “teachers” in here too!!

Thanks for the ideas. I need to get out and use the boat more to figure out what all I want to do with it and how I want to use it. Like I have said before, Im not new to kayaks, just new to sit on tops and using them for fishing. I have to say that so far, I am having a blast and always willing to learn from guys that have done it a lot more than me.

Only problem is now I have a messed up back. So that is putting a real hurting on my kayaking time. Get to go for an MRI in the morning to try and figure out how bad it really is. Need to get fixed up so I can get back out on the water.
