Help with trolling motor?

Chip just helped me install my new Minn Kota Riptide 70 with I-pilot. First of all, thanks to Murraymaker for all of the help. It would have taken me much longer to do it by myself. Second, after playing with it for only a few minutes I am amazed with all of the technology and advanced modes that it is capable of. I can’t wait to get on the water this weekend to give it a try. I think that you made a great choice!

Try to find a factory rebuild! I have bought several and never had a problem like with the new ones. They are 40% cheeper and have only a one year warrenty I cant remember thre web site but should be easy to find. Good luck!!

And she is here. Big thumbs up to you guys talking me into the ipilot. Just reading the book so far, I know it is worth it. Can’t wait to try her out.

Just want to say what a dream that ipilot is. It made solo fishing not on;y tolerable, but downright fun. The family is going to be so happy not to have to hear me bark out trolling motor orders from the back of the boat.

I need to get a hang of the track back feature, but it did work. It just took me to the wrong starting point that I wanted to. The autopilot is a must have. I don’t even know why you would operate the motor with advanced autopilot turned off.

And the spot lock was crazy. I would move around looking for fish, find them and hit lock, and the motor would do 180 degrees and back me up to the spot.

I was even able to catch 3 fish in the short time I was out there. All around 21", but still a great day. Boy it was rough saturday morning wasn’t it?

Good luck with it! Never seem to hear anything but good thing about them.

Now that we have wireless remotes for our trolling motors, I wonder if we will ever see a voice activated remote. I’ve been thinking about it lately when following schooling fish when I have to keep on going to the remote on my wrist to change speed or direction while trying to keep casting.

Sure would be nice to just be able to keep casting while talking into a headset with commands like, “right”, “left”, “slow”, “fast”.

Edit: …and while I’m at it, how about a robot that can cast, with pin point accuracy, to a spot that you point to with a lazer pen???

Ever tried the rod mounted remote holder? Might make it easier to stay cast ready or keep retrieving while hitting the controls.

If i am not mistaken motorguide had a voice steer motor a long time ago. It didnt pan out or they would still be around. But with better technology out there it may come back one day…
