I did not have to include tonnage for my permits. For those of you who wonder, that means I have to get four permits: Dolpin/Wahoo, Snapper/Grouper, Coastal Pelagics, and HMS. Good thing is the first one is $25 and $10 each for additional permits.

I went on the site and they ask for gross tonnage among other things but this is the angler category. My question is, I’m preparing to take the Captain’s exam but do not intend to actively charter. If I am not chartering offshore do I still need the commercial/charter HMS permit? And I didn’t know about the others. I guess that is why you have to get the others sulcat?

Passing the captain’s exam does not make you a charter vessel. You still need to register the vessel and get the applicable Charter permits. You do not need to do this just because you have your captain’s license. All permits go with the boat not the captain.
