Hopefully i'll have some fishing reports from the keys this coming week

One more thing. Unless you know the area I recommend renting the boat because the GPS on the boats has good tracks to follow since following the Chanel’s is a huge deal here until you clear the buoys on the Atlantic side.

Loving this thread! Keep it up!

Good call @DFreedom
We did that today and caught fish most the day. We also would drop a ball and then just follow it down with an egg sinker so it will stay down. Some were barely keepers at best, but had a lot of action. Most all action today was on the bottom. It’s sooooo hot the fish are tough to get up from the coral and patches. It’s fun too just fish these bridges also. We caught all kind of stuff like you would see at some aquarium. I caught small strawberry grouper and small hog fish that was pretty cool. Probably 13-14”. I already am trying to plan the next trip!

Thanks so much for allowing us to be a part of your trip!!

Thanks for all the info, and looks like y’all had a great time.

Perhaps some here are curious, as well as myself…do they provide an EPIRB or PLB??

Sorry for the ???

Thanks
NN

Also, not a bad price, IMO on the boat rental. Big stress reliever for sure, if towing. Especially if dragging it long distance with fuel…

Thanks
NN

Outstanding !!!

Hey, so glad it worked for y’all. I was skeptical when I was told about that method but tried it and saw it worked. Not every day is a great day, but it sounds like you are figuring it out day by day. There are so many different species you can catch down there. To me, that is what makes it so fun. If you can catch any grunts, put them on a fairly heavy slipper jig and drop them to the bottom. You’ll have a good chance hooking up with a grouper. A Carolina rig might work as well. Sometimes though, the grouper will get into the rocks/coral, and you may not get them out.

Anyway, sounds y’all are having a great trip.

There is no epirb or PLB and I didn’t think to ask since I knew we were not going to the hump this trip or far enough away where you can’t see land. Everywhere we went from 15’ to 290’ (trolling around the sunk barge) we had a phone signal, could see land, and could see other boats. We had a ditch bag nearby the life jackets with phone, flares(included), flashlights and whistles(included) just in case since it is a rental boat.
I think the bigger boats have it included but I can’t remember.
Also we only used $52 gallons of fuel and spent 6-10 hrs a day out there $320.

Hope that helps.
Last sunset before heading home :disappointed:

Looks like some great family time.
Know y’all hate to see it end.
We enjoy tagging along.

Hate for it to end but I’m sure you’ll be glad to get home, too. Thanks for the updates! We will be headed to the gulf in a couple of weeks ourselves, youve got me primed and ready! :+1:

Nice report thanks for sharing with Us. That should add a few more years to your life from stress relief. Also such a relief not pulling a boat that far and back. If it wasn’t for family in S.C. I’d move to Florida. Probably around the Tallahassee area or Homestead. Not a lot of areas left in a rural setting with a bit of privacy any more. Had an awesome opportunity to buy an old orange orchard, If hindsight was 20-20.
