I went for a little walk yesterday afternoon.....

Sorry for your loss…My mother in law was just given 3 days to 2 weeks to live with Small Cell Lung Cancer. She is 48. This Cancer is a beast and someone has to figure out how to cure it. Great post and very sorry for you and your family .

i’m sorry you lost your dad, ricky.

i enjoy reading your descriptions of the essence of fishing- it makes me take perspective on my own attitude toward fishing, how it has changed, and how much every moment of my 29 years of standing there quietly fishing with my dad has meant to me.

may the fish gods smile on you tomorrow.

Great Post. Still miss my dad. May his spirit put you on them tomorrow ; )

That was a great read there Sailfish thanks for sharing that with us. It reminds me of what life is really all about. My thoughts go out to you Cooper River Man. Your mom is still a young woman and I’m very sorry to hear about her illness.

Ricky…Donnie and I are so sorry about your Dads passing…but anyone who reads your post will quickly realize that your Dad will ALWAYS be with you. I thank God for my Dad everyday…and cant imagine the emptiness I’d feel without him. Theres no where I’d rather be then in my Daddys old skiff listening to him tell me stories “of old” …or just sitting in silence as we fish. We had a scare with him two weeks ago and as I pushed him through the hospital in a wheelchair the feeling of helplessness and pain that I felt was almost unbearable. While I’ve always been close to my dad…I too regret the days when I passed spending time with him for whatever reason. As we get older we realize how precious life and those we love really are, and how “rich” we are because of them. Hold tight to your memories and know that your Daddy will live on in you and in your memories. Our prayers and thought will be with you and your family.

Thanks for posting this Ricky and I am very shocked to hear about your father. He and I spoke a few times and he and I always seemed to talk about fishing.
This makes me realize I need to value my relationships more.
Give me a call and we will go fishing.
Again i am sorry for your loss and hope you and your family get through this ok.

Great Post. I would do anything to see my Dad and go fishing with him again. Most just don’t know how lucky they are to still have there Dads.

Ricky:

One of the best posts Ive seen on here in a long time. Sorry to hear about your father. My father and I have a great reltaionship, with some headaches of course, but my whole life we have fished together. And I cherish every single on of those memories fishing with him. Every time he visits, we try and get him on a Redfish. We even went for a quick 2 hour trip two weeks ago before I had to go to work, and before he drove 12 hours home back to Jersey, just to be on the water. reading your post makes me realize I may not get many more chances to do stuff like that.

I recently went fishing with a mutual friend of yours and mine, and I had one of the best days of fishing and most enjoyable days of fishing in a long time. No headaches, no problems, just fun, good conversation, and lots of fish. It makes me realize, like you said, how blessed we are to have such a great resource of fish, and how much fun it provides us. Which is why myself and the my fishing partner make sure we took extra special care of each fish we caught and revived them as best as possible. I do not want to lose the potential good times on the water friends and family.

Hope we can go fishing sometime soon man.

I’m truly sad to hear of your father’s passing. I am happy that you have great memories that will never fade.

This will be a short post as I think there might be something wrong with my screen, it’s getting kinda fuzzy.

You a good man Ricky.

Umm, you gonna eat that?

Thousands have died to save my freedom. Only one has died to save my soul!

Thanks for sharing. I would encourage you to submit that to some outdoors magazines, so that it can bless others as it did us. I definitely believe that fishing/nature is a form of worship. I am a regular church-goer, but I think my feeling of connection with God is more acute when I am on the water than in church. I always think about God when I am surfing and fishing. I am sorry for your loss, but happy that you had a good Daddy.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Great post. Salt air and great memories help the hurt.
