Pardon my newness to jiggin’ but what is the best way to rig a jig? For example, in your vid I saw that you were fishing with mono I believe. What # test was that and did you use an inline swivel or a leader of sorts or just straight to the mono line.
Also, I have rods with braid and some with 50# mono.
With the braid would it be better to tie a flouro leader inline without swivel with an Alberto knot or to use a swivel to leader median?
With the mono rods, the same question but a little different, would it be better fish straight to the mono, inline flouro leader to mono without swivel, or a swivel to flouro leader?
Again, sorry for questions that have been answered before. I am just begining to try to get started with vertical jigging and wanted to know what the more experienced anglers have had proven experience doin.
Thanks.

Looks like fun but too deep for my little boat.

Ask 10 people and get 10 answers. Here is my method: any non-hollow mainline get a Page Ranking knot to the flouro leader. My heavier, 60# and up, is all hollow core line, it gets all spliced end loops. These loops get a loop to loop or L2L connection to my homemade windon leaders. This system lets me tie my stuff in a controlled enviroment, my kitchen. If I bust one off, I’ll grab a different rod. The terminal end is a ringed grommet with a crimp to the leader, split ring and hook attached to that.
On my 60# and up the only knot is the one holding my mainline to the spool. I can consistenty put over 75# of pressure on 80# Yo-zuri flouro. Most hooks will bend out at 70# or less. Most people can’t withstand more than 30# of drag unless in a chair. Most gear people own can’t produce that amount of drag anyway.
I am a bit of a nut though. All

I was jigging a 4oz cripple herring at the Chas 60 this weekend - picked up a few grunts and 1 keeper BSB. Only did it for a few drifts just to see if it would work.

Nice video! Jigging is a blast looks like you guys had one too! How you like your Avet? Have a few myself love them especially for the money. Question for you Court what kind of spinning rods are those? That’s one rod I do need is a nice spinning rod for jigging. Curious how they are rated lb. test wise seem perfect! Again congrats on your day!

No Avets on my boat, to much play in the dawgs. Accurate, Studio Ocean Mark and Van Staal maybe a Shimano every now and then.
Higher end jigging rods are rated by gram, not #. All of my jigging rods are Jigging Master. I have them from 100G(purple) to 500G. The blue spinner is a 250G which is the best all around wieght rating for here. I usually fish a bit lighter. My 150G conventional with the blue reel is probably my favorite jigger.
Ok I gotcha that blue conventional reel I thought was an Avet. Absolutely LOVE Accurate reels grew up in CA and they are big out there just cant break my wallet open yet to buy one of my own. Thanks for your info on the rods Court!
