I like those! Who makes them? Thanks

Those are cool! I have a mold for those heads, but never thought to do something like that. Do you see any advantage/disadvantage to using the octopus hook with the up turned eye?
I have a theory that the closer the hook point is to the eye (i.e. the shorter the shank of the hook is), the better the hookup ratio on sheeps. I’ve tried octopus, J, live bait, gorilla, etc, etc but i believe a “stubby” hook puts the point closer to their lips more often and not all the way past the teeth as much

I prefer straight eye instead of bent/offset as well. BIL gets around that by snelling his octopus hooks
not in love with that color, and i generally go with light, short carolina rigs these days… but a buddy uses the bottom sweeper/standup kind and loves it too. I’d certainly be willing to try something like these in light current.

They are called swivel jigs or swing jigs.
The cheapest way I know to buy them is on ebay or etsy. Theres a guy in alabama that sells them for $49 for 30 of them. Thats about a buck fifty a jig, so if you can find any better or cheaper post em up here please.
see, sman and the fancy beads and high tech jigs is gonna break me, lol
heres a link, and they do work. Listen to Barbawang for the sheepshead as he knows stuff.,., , those owner gorilla short shanks are the best I’ve tried.
the smaller ones work great for pompano in the surf, attached to a sand flea. the small ones (less than 1/2 oz) are hard to find.
I like the rigging so I can feel the bait, not a fan of having the weight between me and the fish
Know folks who drop shot for them successfully, never tried it
Split shot just above the knot of an owner #1 ssw landed my PB 11.0#, get me drunk and I’ll tell you the bait
EF1, are you planning to use them for Pompano? Seems that color would be appropriate.
Several years ago, a guy asked me to tie orange flies for him, similar to a Salmon egg pattern, that he said he used for Pompano. He used them with spinning tackle, and had a small sinker that he rigged them on.
My 1/0 & 2/0 hooks arrived too for those jigs. These sizes make more sense with the smaller jigs. I would bet they could work for the forward facing sonar too with plastic baits.
To be 100% honest, I am not sure yet, as I already have a big handful of swivel jigs.
I just grabbed those orange ones because they were so cheap, under .20 cents each with the shipping. wow
I will likely paint some of them different colors, maybe, or not, lol.
On cold snowy days the cheap online tackle is my “sweet tooth”
I know how that can be! I should own stock in Ebay! ![]()
Now I know why they were cheap, but still a great deal
These were dipped in acrylic paint. Usually I can take a hook and open the jig eye, but not these, lol.
so I took a soldering iron and heated the paint on the eye, then punched thru and routed it out smooth with a corkscrew.
@bigjim5589 if you PM me your address I’ll send you some of these orange ones to check out.
they are .7g or around 1/4 oz for size reference in the picture
Leftovers for lunch while I punched them out
