oops, forgot, surf, check out the bow on the yaks. I know you’ve paddled these boats, but when the wind picks up almost all boats are wet. Check out if the bow is it squared off or is it flared. In a cross wind the flared bow can make a difference on how wet or dry you’ll get while paddling. Plus if you want to make a beach launch the flared bow helps you get over the breakers and not inside of them.
mudroc,i have hit info overload.im learning that there is no perfect yak for all things.for the type of fishin im gonna mostly do,i think im down to the t140 or the redfish.probably the redfish.my head is gonna explode if i read anymore or somebody tells me much more.my partners at work are about to kill me.they are sick of hearing about yaks already.i always take anything to do with my fishin seriously, and this has been no different.ive got 300+ pages of material off the net, plus i have written down most of what you guys have told me.those 2 yaks seem to be the best for what i want.maybe at this point ill just flip a coin.but, you guys sure know your stuff, and i cant wait to get the thing so we can hit the water. surf
Also put your scupper plugs in. I find this combination hard to beat. I don’t fish from mine much any more because I got a boat last year.
I have, however, used my kayak for several years now for duck hunting. (not to shoot out of but for transportation in the shallows). The Drifter will hold my fat arse, my gun, my shells, my walking stick, my marsh seat, and a dozen decoys, waders, etc., etc. I think this would sink most other yaks.
I’m babbling. The main point is the Drifter Seat makes this kayak a completely different animal; much easer to get in and out, and a dryer ride.
thanks for the info.you probably read that i tried the drifter,it was ok.without scupper plugs i got wet.i also didnt care for those ridges that are there for footholds.the thing paddled sluggish also.i think im about hooked on the redfish.if things go ok this week,i might be able to buy soon.thanks for all the info everybody.
I have ended up with two a 160i which I had and just got a new marquesa, wasnt my intention but I hemmed and hawed on selling the 160i and then found a really good deal on a marquesa, so whats a man to do, wife is still happy , two kayaks cost alot less than the flats boats I used to run in FL.
Im planning to hit up Copahee tomorrow afternoon. Im hoping to be there about 4:30, but all depends on when class get let out. Ill be in a Red Tacoma and a dark green ocean kayak.
