Kinda sad

Same story up and down the east coast nothing new. PCBs were dumped into the watershed for years. If this is new news you either haven’t been around long or don’t read much.

I remember when I was a boy, all the discussion about PCB’s was going on and how bad they were and that they’ll kill you. They were warning about PCB’s being inside of power pole transformers and that the transformers were prone to leaking and contaminating the ground around power poles.

And I wondered…if the PCB’s were so dangerous and killed you…how were the fire ants able to live in the PCB contaminated dirt at the base of the power pole.

Not just Charleston. Its all over. Just came from San Francisco bay, everything in the bay is so loaded with mercury and PCBs we can’t eat any of it except the halibut, which migrates offshore. The bass in the delta is loaded with insecticides and herbicides. Unfortunately the damage was done long ago. Look at the bright side, our grand kids will only have to deal with micro plastics, hormones, and prescription drugs running through the eco-system.

I don’t doubt the dangers of PCB’s and I’d never live under a power pole dripping PCB’s on my house.

When will the DHEC update the Charleston Fish Consumption Advisory? Dangerous high levels of cancer causing pollutants found in the fish we catch and eat including Flounder, Trout, & Red Drum.

Does anyone know about sheephead?

I was wondering the same thing 40. I’m no scientist but I would bet they have lower levels due to their shellfish and crustacean diet but who knows

Having recently built our new home along the marsh, I can tell you that knowing someone has nothing to do with the regulations regarding septic tanks/leach fields. They have strict requirements regarding location and construction of them. Don’t know what it was like in the good ole days, but today they do all they can to prevent seepage into wetlands. At least for now…who knows what damage the new relaxed regulations enacted by our current administration causes to our environment.

That’s the kind of stuff Trump is doing that Sea Tonic doesn’t want to hear about. Trump aint so bad.

Wonder about the shrimping. After Hugo, DNR/DHEC shut down shrimping due to the storm stirring up PCB’s in the sediment

A calm sea never made a skilled sailor

I spoke to marine scientist many times over the years and the one thing that they all seem to agree on is, fish store almost all of those toxins in the fatty tissue. That said if you filet the fish and cut all the red meat out and sear it on a bed of hot coals most all of the chemicals will be displaced.
And if it kills me in the long run I will die a happy man!
