I like the weedless “belly hook” at high tide when the Reds are up in the marsh grass tailing.
Your boat is very capable at the jetties. You may want to add a gotcha plug and try for Spanish Mackerel at the tip of the jetties. When the tide starts to push out, there will be an obvious color break between the ocean and outgoing water. Cast from one side to the other and reel fast. Spanish go deeper in the column as the day progresses.
Got on em pretty good the other day with the original 2" Eye Strike jig head in 3/16oz size with a DOA paddle tail around oyster beds and in current breaks / eddy’s. Trout are few & far between for me right now and flounder are biting more and more. Water temps in the Wando are still mid 80’s but daylight is waning and the fish know that as much as they do that the water cools just as deer and other game do. Fall fishing is about to get really good I’m thinking!
Jetties were pretty good the other day (last Wednesday) for us. Caught a number of small to mid sized reds on the eye strike jig head with a DOA paddle tail and a DOA soft plastic jerk bait along with some black bass walking the weedless rig along the base of the rocks at high tide. Went out to the tips of the jetties and threw topwater on both with a lot of success. Had a buddy in town and wanted to get some bites on top so we got in to a big school of ladyfish and had a blast teeing off on them with various walking baits. The Wando is fair but improving slowly, the water is still pretty warm by my measure and the bite fairly slow with mostly small juevinille reds being caught. Have not chased any in the grass as my boat can’t get that far back up in there without making a ton of racket with the TM so I’m focused on low tide and the rising and falling tides near low in the Wando and it’s working fairly well but can be a LOT better. Trout are still being stingy but I’m good with that as when it’s cold that’s my favorite, deeper clear water is where I feel most at home.
