Solution to this alleged fish weight in question- Hang it from a scale next time and take a picture while its on the scale! Or run a tape down it for length and around it for girth and take pics of that. Then, there’s no question! If the fish is actually 28" around as you said, then it could easily way 50+lbs. Is it? I dunnno. But I do think that it is a solid fish tho, every bit of 40lbs if your measurements were close. Does it matter!? Heck no! Thats a great hoo anyday man, congrats to yall. 
Dang, if the rule is to take a picture of it hanging from a scale, along with a tape measure, yall won’t be seeing any of my fish.

Never,never,never let the biggest guy in the crew hold up the catch of the day when your taking pics.Happens to me all the time,my skinny friend’s fish always look better in the pictures.
We caught this 68lb wahoo about 4 years ago when I was at 240.
I’m now right at 220 so that same fish would now be a whopping 88lbs.

Skinneej thank you for your concern, seems alil homo so just to let you know I’m not your type. A lot of smartazzes on here that can’t wait to bust someone that knows less about saltwater fishing than they to do. I appreciate all the helpful folks on here but they are a lot of people that will say things to folks and in a way they wouldnt dare say to someone’s face. Chip, the point is… Someone called BS on an estimated weight. Who cares? If someone really get’s their feelings hurt, then fishing is probably not the best avenue for them to try.
wish I had caught that bigfish sat, fishing all day in 5’seas with a 5’ wind wave! beatup but happy with 5 phins and no broken equip!Very nice fish, don’t care how big the fisherman is!
