Lg Shrimp Google

This is a wonderful example about someone helping out another and then getting rediculed for it. My first year shrimping. I know about bulls bay, crab bank, ect… Someone giving a newbie info that shows them how to approach a body of water is nice and informative. No secrets were revealed. Their post just helped to pass this tradition on to another generation who grew up hunting and in freshwater just as Sniper. So CreekGirl, I thank you for that.

If you’re worried about the shrimp. Talk trash to the Comm shrimpers who destroy our bottom and will take a whole lot more than I surely did on opening day

Otherwise give some newbie some helpful advice and help someone learn to enjoy a new part of the outdoors. But save that piss poor attitude for you wife or who ever listens to you when you want to witch and moan. Because none of us want to hear it and espicially to someone who actually tries to help us newbies!

Having been raised in Mcllellanville…I love SC shrimpers…sorry…guess Im a southern girl and dont want to have to eat pond -raised poop -fed shrimp from another country…and bet a lot of folks on here…even those who fuss about the trawlers… were raised on trawler caught shrimp too or have eaten them in resturants. I hate it that people will talk so bad about them then run out and buy or sell their catch be it in a market, restaurant or store…but thats just my opinion. Dont worry…cost of running those trawlers is slowly killing out the people who own/run them…so one day soon…sadly…you will no longer see a shrimp boat on the horizon or tied to a dock…only skeletons in the mudd for the oysters to grow on.

one day our rights to catch shrimp may be taken away too…how sad.

hope the shrimp pick up and some bigger ones show up for all of you!..and that this dang wind will quit  stay safe out there

Please forgive me, I meant nothing towards the comm shrimpers. I to love eating their shrimp and dont want to not be able to. I was playing devils advocate to give Tel something to witch about more worthy than at someone giving some newby advice who then goes and catches 3 dozen eatable shrimp on opening day. (I did throw back a lot of smaller ones…) Once again my apologies

Bryant…no need to apologize…I too am sorry if I came off as angry because I wasn’t…just sad because it seems people will beat the drum until the bell tolls when there has to be another answer.
Shrimping kept our bellys full and clothes on our back when we were growing up…I remember waking to the smell of strong black coffee and the sounds of my daddy getting ready to “go to the dock” at 0400 every morning.
I remember standing where the crab dock once stood on the point of Jeremy creek and looking at the outlines and outriggers of the boats coming in…looking for my daddy coming home.
I remember the sound of seagulls screeching on the water…the gentle “roll” of the boat and the outriggers dipping side to side…and the drone sound of the old Diesel engines.
I remember the sound of daddys truck in the drive and his boots coming up the porch … the smell of his clothes when he came in… shrimp and sometimes fish for dinner…and I will always hold those memories dear.
The creek then was lined with shrimp boats of all sizes…it was what “the village” was. There were no strangers…no fancy exspensive houses…life was simple…and full.
I know life brings with it changes…but sometimes change leaves us with a emptiness in our souls…but not in our memories.
Again…I am sorry that I made you feel the need to apologize…and appreciate your not lashing out at me for feeling the way I do. Penn

Kudos to ya Creekgirl for your post. I am sure many will appreciate it. It’s not often you see an informative post on here. Usually just sarcasm as you see in some of these responses. One thing is for sure…it does get “crazy dangerous” in that bay real quick. That’s why you don’t see a parking lot of boats in Bull’s Bay especially at night.

Nice mental pic there Penny. Sure miss those simple days!

Life Is Good…Gotta Love It!!!

WOW…I’m hearing some biatching here…Let me tell you now, AT LEAST YOU CAN THROW THE DAM NET! I’m sitting here chomping at the bit, really unable to walk, but want to go toss it this weekend, but alas…the boss won’t allow. I even reduced myself to being a shrimp deheader-crab cooker for a buddy that had a good weekend…(REDUCED?? I think not. I enjoyed helping head them and reveling in his good time. Jealous as heck but glad just the same. Seeing fresh shrimp did me some good…One day soon!!!

Thank you Creekgirl. We get down to BB only one week of the year to shrimp. I appreciate any and all information that I can find on the shrimp in BB. I have shrimped there exclusively for the last few years and will agree with you on your assesments of the water depth and bottom. However I rely on the information that I read from folks that are down there to help me narrow down my area to shrimp. Just like fishing, it is a game of yards when it comes to finding your limit. I will continue to read your posts and others that will help me narrow down that area. Im not greedy we will hopefully catch our limit 2x and that will be plenty to keep my wife and 2 daughters in shrimp till next season. Just like the deer and other game that we take it is only what we need. Tel u my friend are an ignorant ass. This resource was placed here for us to enjoy and feed our famlies. There is a whole lotta watta between Ga and NC that is yours and mine. I guess you have the deed to our state or are you one of those newcomers to our state. I’m willing to make a wager that no one in your family was on the boat that the French Huguenots were on when they settled Oyster Point that is now Charleston. I’m willing to bet that you no nothing of our state history or anything else about the coastal towns we have. Maybe you should get back on your “off shore” boat and catch your limit of BSB or is that too far out for you? Penny I appreciate and love MCVL and the shrimp boats and the crabs. I appreciate your stories the most. To the rest of the members I apologize for my rant. Rob

BTW we will be renting a place in MCVL again this season. We will eat at Grahams nightly and enjoy the quiet. We will go to Lelands and buy fish and crabs to go with the meals that we prepare. One day we will hopefuly own property in MCVL. Darien Georgia is also another small shrimping village that is another wonderful spot to relax with no traffic or stop lights. Its amazing to see all the stars in the sky and hear the diesel drone under your feet as you “thump heads”

I would like to start by thanking all who post helpful info. Being a small business owner and father of a three year old I get very little time on the water. Last year I bought tags and never got to go not once. I buy a sportsmans combo, shrimp tags and trot line tag mainly to support scdnr. I love nothing more than providing fish or game for family and friends as a good reason to get together. People like creekgirl obviously feel the same. Though I don’t know her many in here do. I will be going to get some solar powered lights for my rod holders soon. Awesome idea! I never go to Bulls Bay because a friend of mine has a small home near the Coosaw river that I stay in being that I live in Lexington. I am also afraid of the big water. That being said everyone has always told me Bulls bay was the place to go. Tel I thank generally speaking its going to be left up to we who love the great outdoors to protect it but being selfish isn’t the way. Being responsible so future generations can enjoy it for all the right reasons might help. Just my opinion. I hope all have much luck.

I had a post several years back about catching shrimp at cowpen’s and received an email from a ??? who didn’t like it. I told him “what in the heck are you doing on charleston fishing just surfing for info you jerk”. The largest shrimp I ever caught came out of Bull’s Bay, just had one, it was 3x larger. My good buddy ended up with it when we split the cooler. It was caught between White Sands and Bulls Island on the ocean side. We have shrimped from Hilton Head to Georgetown with full coolers from all places a time or two.

See ya on the water/19’ Neptune/115 Johnson.

This is all silly really. …These places are no secret. Everyone knows about BB. All you have to do is find all of the boats once you get there…duhh…

So is there any good “spots” in Beaufort that one could find large shrimp?
I have been to Lands end, Pigen point and Whale branch and Lemon Island? I did have some luck last year but my frezer was empty early summer. No Shrimp left. And the shrimp i did catch last year were small at best.
But I figure if yall are in the helping each other out mode, I could sure use a new spot to try with out traveling 80 miles to BB…
Thanks for your replays and Good luck on the season

I may be talking about the same places you’ve named, but the seaward end of Morgan Island, especially at night, is great with channels on either side of a huge tide flat.

I think I will be shrimping in a duck blind this season in a small creek at low tide…with the camo on, hat and glasses…I am really sorry for starting this thread I feel just awful…after reading these post I am going to drink my last can of nerve tonic…I need it…(And to think I was in Carolina Sportsman last year holding shrimp with a friend of mine…)Again really sorry - we all need to get out on the water.

There is nothing to be sorry about. This site is very well known as a resource. It has helped everyone I know that has ever used this site, I was so impressed with this community of people that will welcome people from all over into the community and offer a resource ulike any I have ever seen. I came to enjoy this site so much I felt compelled to meet some of the people at the annual oyster roast in Charleston and put a face to a name. My wife and I felt welcomed and included. And just as this post showed, not all shrimpers are cut from the cloth

I think it was a really nice gesture on your part to offer advice.
Some may have already figured it out but some haven’t. Little things
like your advice can help. I would think that is one of the reasons
for this site. Thanks for contributing.

Creekgirl - keep it coming.
This site is for the community to get together. I know we are all fishermen so I believe almost 1/4 of what I read
However, advice and tips are very much appreciated. I have learned a great deal over the couple of years I have been a member and met a number of nice people as well.

Don’t let a couple of ‘Mantis Shrimp’ ruin it for you or everyone else.

Hopefully I will see you on the water. If so, there is a nerve tonic with your name on it.
