i caught one a few labor days ago on a big firetiger rapala in 12’ of water off the south jetty.
don’t know exactly how big it was, but it buried a 30lb boga like nobodys business.

I hear you stono, Last year I got knocked down like ten times w/ the big haden on the slow trolls, never really set out for just kings but the big baits were so easy to find. So I have hit BW and was thinking big reds, sharks, trout, flounder, Bsb ect…are all fun but this year, I’m gonna boat some big Kings… i’ll see ya out there…I hooked a lot of trout on the stono this past year on those nice Nov. days any way I know your boat and hope to see ya out there trolling for some kings some spring or summer day…See ya on the pond

Mullet!! We can hook up and i can follow you out.I will have the Ladies with me but ScLady and Fishingirl are great mates.Would love to see laurel hookup a king. She goes ballistic on a 1 pound trout.Looks like early May late April will do it.
Stonoman
should be earlier than late april or early may… as soon as the water hits 65… in 100 ft i am going
When do you think the kings will be biting out past the jetties? I have a little 16 foot CC and was thinking about getting out there when it warms up.
well… that close in it will probably be may before they get here… i was talking about 20- 45 miles offshore…but they are fun no matter where you catch them…
Yeah I was talking about in 35-40 feet of water. Thanks
Kings show up in May through November in warm weather and water. Learn to throw a cast net for live pogies, jig for sardines and slow troll with live bait rigs. King rigs can be bought anywhere or learn to twist up your own to save $. Lots of smaller spoons and Drone/Rapala/Yozuri lures are productive in warm weather. Make sure you have adequate leader or wire to prevent cutoffs. Troll up and down the tideline in the ship channel from the end of the rocks out to the first 3 sets of bouys. That will get you a good start. If they are there they will bite anything. Right now they are out at the gulfstream and there are plenty of better eating fish to catch for the money spent to get that far out. Good luck

Thanks for the help pete!!
Got 3 last year on Mann Stetch 25, Red head with white body. We
normally troll right at the rip line at high tide … Out close to
Bouy 12 or there abouts … On a calm day, it isn’t really bad even
for a under 20’ cc or dc … Can’t wait for May and a little warm
WX … Ate the last King filet the other night and now the freezer is
bare … I usually run 3 lines with a 1 1/2oz inline weight then
15’ of 50lb test mono, 1’ of steel leader … Troll at 4-5kts and
if they are there, you should hook up …

They like water temps of 68 and higher. Look for temps to increase along with bait arrival.
Take a larger ballyhoo, break off the bottom bill, use a red jighead from underneath the bill out the top, Then, using stainless wire haywired under the bill around the jig hook and daisy chain a treble hook at the anus and another stinger to drag right about the tail. Oh yeah, you have to copper wire the hoo’s mouth shut. Pull off both pectoral fins so the b-hoo doesn’t spin. Make sure to bend the bally hoo in an “S” both ways and to bend him up and down so that all the stiffness from the freezer is gone and he’s good and loose. Troll slow by knocking the boat in and out of gear or working into the wind. Big kings are like big wives, they’re fat and lazy and Ballyhoo are the bon-bons of the fish world. THey want em but they don’t want to work for them. P.S. The stinger’s the killer. Don’t horse the fish though, the trebles don’t usually get much deeper than skin.
WE ARE GETTING CLOSE !!! ■■■■ WIND BETTER START TO LAY DOWN
