I don’t have a picture of the rig, but take a 3-way hd swiwel, tie a 6-8" leader to a bucktail of your choice, then tie on 18-24" leader tipped with a light feather or fur tipped spoon and finally, attach it to your line with the 3rd ring. Each component gets it’s own ring on the swivel. The very thin, lightweight spoons are generically called ice flies. I think there are some branded that way, but not the ones I normally use. Through the years, I’ve caught more on the spoon than the bucktail, but multiple hook-ups sometimes occur. If we bump into each other on the lake I’ll show you the setup and exactly what I use.

I keep hearing about this setup, but, like I said, I’ve never seen one … I’m always game to add to the arsenal, but I always end up using live bait … No matter what, nothing out performs a fresh Gizzard, Herring, Finger Mullet, Pilchard, or Shrimp …

I’ll take a tank of these over any lure on the market …

Agreed. Fresh, live bait is tops in my book, too. Always has been and probably always will be. (Unless something better comes along!)
However, lures don’t care what the water temps are, don’t get your gear nearly as scaly, and are infinitely easier to store in a tackle box. :slightly_smiling_face:

Went to dooleys and picked up 6 ice flys this morning. Can’t wait to try them. I’m hoping to get off work in time to give Hallow Creek a try this afternoon til dark. Pulling boards with main motor slowed down as much as possible. I’ll post my results this evening if I get a chance. If I get on them I’ll give specifics as I’m not a special spot kinda guy. If I catch them I want others to be able to do so as well.

Throw a couple 5 gallon buckets off the transom, that will help slow you down quite a bit.

Make sure the buckets are tied to the boat.:smiley:

I’ve been able to trim motor up high enuf to get down to .9-1.1mph, keep the other motor off and locked in reverse and both trim tabs maxed out down.

Seems to me that is going to be too much noise in the water … I know it’s been said a thousand times, but you gotta get a trolling motor if you want to effectively pull boards … It is what it is … Good Luck …

Just an FYI, you can share what you want to and be as descriptive as you want to … but it has been my experience that the more liberal you are with publicizing information the less likely you are to receive any more detailed information from others …

That said, I’m not sure you can get any more specific than a Navionics Screenshot with a big red circle marking the area to fish … just sayin …

Anyone know of a map similiar to lawcrusher’s, that labels all the creeks/rivers and such?

Very valid point, sir!

In the future, where every stranger poses a potential threat, knowing the predator mindset is the only safe haven.

Navionics is the best I’ve found. U can spend a few bux and put on your phone. I’ve used it for travel for 2 years when I had my wake boarding boat.

I feel the same way about the noise buT I’ve caught many Stripers on a U-Rig literally feet behind the big motor in shallow water. I’ve caught them both ways but usually ive fished warm water with big motors and live bait. On the sharing of info, I’m not going to share any info or specifics when fishing in areas or ways that have been sent by PM and not posted publicly. However if I find success thru trial and error I don’t mind sharing. Not like it’s gonna be any good info anyways because my success without a trolling motor has sucked.

I’ve always been a fan of open communication and sharing of info. I like this trend and it’s why I love this Striper Fishing Forum. I especially like it if the info is up to date and falls right before the day I’m down there!

I’ve said it before and will say it again, the best days I’ve ever had catching fish (note I didn’t say “fishing”) were when someone steered me in the right direction. Sometimes it is actual GPS coordinates (you know who you are- Thanks!), a general area with a productive technique, or info on where NOT to fish.

Yea, occasionally I’m the one who lucks up and finds lots of fish or quality fish, but more often than not, someone has helped me out…and I appreciate it EVERY single time! Life’s too short to not catch fish.

^^^^ what he said:smiley:

Agreed … for clarification … and meaning no disrespect to FB2 … I was referring to this particular comment …

“If I get on them I’ll give specifics as I’m not a special spot kinda guy. If I catch them I want others to be able to do so as well.”

When one states, “I’m not a special spot kinda guy” that will (like it or not) make some people think twice about sharing information directly for fear that this person will broadcast that information into the public domain …

The way I’m reading your post is that you appreciate the sharing of information both publicly and privately - but what is shared privately is not shared in the public domain … at least not without permission …

There’s a difference between the two and I’m just offering a little friendly advice from one Fla boy to the other …

It’s all good LC, I understand. And you’re right. What’s public I’ll share public. Anything private stays private. Like the honey hole cove that was shared with me that I’ve seen folks lighting it up in even tho it has sucked for me. Specifics were given for where to look and have stated private. Well ATLEAST haven’t went outside the gunnels of the Gamefish.

2016 Sea Hunt 25 Gamefish twin Yamaha 150’s

Personally, I rely on this site for information as far as where folks are catching, as well as bait, techniques, etc. I don’t get on the lake very often, so a little “insider” info is always welcome. Plus I’m still learning the lake. I don’t want someone to give out their secret “honey hole” for the whole world. I’m happy with general areas, baits, rigs & how deep the fish have been. I do have a couple of “ringers” that I message privately for specifics though:wink:. Sometimes it pans out, sometimes not.:frowning_face: That’s the way it goes.
That’s what I thought this site was for. Helping fellow anglers.
Just sayin’.

Few knock downs and 1 brought to the boat on Sunrise and Sunset bite last night and this morning. Live bait wasn’t doing much at all. Caught one on a 5 prong u-rig

2016 Sea Hunt 25 Gamefish twin Yamaha 150’s

While I agree with what LC said in regards to bait and have pulled bait with some of the best on Clarks Hill…a double digit striper on one of my flies is what keeps the blood flowing.

Bait IS more consistent and will suit you well if you’re a numbers guy(which a lot on here are), but finding fish that are actively feeding(not necessarily on top) and catching those fish on artificial lure or better yet a fly is what separates things in my opinion.

To each their own.

“Living’s mostly wasting time and I’ll waste my share of mine”

I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL OF TRHE DETAILED INFORMATION BEING PROVIDED FOR FISHING STRIPERS ON LAKE MURRAY. I PLAN ON MAKING THE 915 MILE RIDE IN APRIL AND I HAVE PLENTY OF INFORMATION ON MY PHONE TO TRY. I LIKE TO FISH WITH 3 WAY SWIVELS AND OUR TOP RUNNER IS A JOINTED RAPALA WHICH WORKS GREAT WHEN FISHING LAKE ONTARIO.

JZO let us know when you’re coming. I’d love to catch up and say hello and welcome!
